Hi

Actually, I may have been having these low-grade fevers longer than that because I did'nt use to take my temperature or go to the doctor all that often. Anyway, for many years, my temperature will be in the 97-98 range on a given day but then I'll either take my tempurature or go to the clinic and it will be 99.4 or on a few occassions even 100. I'm going to guess that I have these fevers at least a few times each day and they occur most often in the late afternoon and evening. Sometimes I'll just feel a little "under the weather" and it's then when my temp is often 99.4 or so.

This has been going on for a long time now and I've had just about every conceivable test known to mankind, over a period of many years and by a multitude of doctors and specialists. Everything always comes back "normal" (of course) but I do suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Reflux Disease (GERD), Lactose Intolerance, Chronic Sinusitis, Allergic Rhinitis, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Hypochondria, etc. I also drink from time to time, smoke on occassion and chew nicotine gum. I am a 43 year old male.

Does anyone know what could be causing these chronic, intermittent low-grade fevers and am I the only one here who has them?. Most of the doctors tell me that I probably just "run hot" which I don't think is true because when I have them, I feel under the weather. I've also been told that maybe it's my sinusitis. I'm perplexed and desparate for any help I can get at this point.

Thank you so much!!.

yep, gg. i used to run all sub-normal temps...dr said those were just my "normal" well, i've had 4 major sinus surgeries and since (with sinusitis, infection, etc.) i will run just exactly as you described.

dr said it's fine and normal. i believe him because i'm always fine...hehe

be safe,

kd

Hi Kimydawn Intermittent low-grade fever for 10-12 years

Thank's for the reply. I was beginning to feel like I had worn out my welcome here so I hav'nt posted in a long time but getting back to the sinusitis thing, do you have to have a slimy green discharge in order for it to be considered an "infection"?. The reason I ask is because while my sinusitis acts up all the time and I get temps and stuff, I don't know if I have what would be considered an infection because I don't have any yellow or green discharge. Does it matter?. Can you still have an infection?...low-grade temps...etc?.

Thank's again Kimmy!

Actually, although 98.6 is considered "normal" temperature, people's can vary quite a bit. AND, it can vary at different times of the day - with no illness involved. My Mom's temp in early AM is below "normal". Between 3-5 PM, her temp is almost always 99.6. Then in the evening, it is below"normal". My sister has never had a 98.6 temp as "normal". As a kid, the ole country Doctor we saw thought her 99.8 temp meant she was sick.......all the time. She got sick once - with a temp of 105 and was rushed to major Hospital, and in doing tests, charting her temp etc for several weeks, her temp ran 99.8 all the time ( this of course was after her illness and medicaiton). She is now 49 years old, and her temp still is 99.8 consistently. We are all different in so many ways, and as for "normal" - that's just a settling on a clothes washer and dryer IMHO.

you're welcome ((((((((((((gg)))))))))))))))

yep, can have infection wihtout green...it could be laying down there and you don't see it. Intermittent low-grade fever for 10-12 years

i think we just change as we grow, lifestyles change, etc. my temp can go as high as 100 if i drive to dr in un-aircondtioned car. it just depends on alot. had you been dressed warmly when it was higher, just out of shower/bath, etc. so much can affect it. what you need to do is to try to not take temp so much and it could alleviate the nervousness about it. look for other symptoms of true illness, then when really feeling sick, take it. at one point, i got really caught up in that.

i would not give the varying temps one more moment's thought! i've talked to dr's about it and it's normal...honest injun. Intermittent low-grade fever for 10-12 years

btw, my sinuses finally cleared up when i quit taking all the antibiotics, sinus meds, etc. my body wasn't able to build up it's own defenses. for a while, i was worse. that was years ago. haven't had a major sinus infection since! my body's now able to fight them off and sinus's function better since the surgeries. i do have a life-long, horrible after affect from the surgeries though...trigeminal neuralgia. i will always be dealing with that.

i really would put the temp thing to rest for a while. there are many other ways to know if sick. then if feel sick, take temp, if it's over 101...get to dr. that's what i do Intermittent low-grade fever for 10-12 years

be safe, gg. remember, you're welcome here Intermittent low-grade fever for 10-12 years

It is true, varing temps that are under 101 are normal. I went for about 6 months with a temp of just under 101. My Dr diagnosed it as "temperature of unknown origin". Nothing that is going to harm you at all.....no no need to worry. This year when I was in the hospital, I started running a temp of 102. That was when my GP realized that my Central Line was infected. Unfortunately, I am allergic to most antibiotics & they scrambled to find one that I could take. Only when your temp goes to around 102 do you have a problem. Mild infections can usually be fought by your own antibodies & will go away in time. You may want to look up on the internet information about "fever of unknown origin" to get more information on it.....but it too is nothing to worry about at all.

I do hope you will be able to find some comfort in knowing that you are not alone with low grade temps & that there really is nothing seriously wrong.

Take care,
Debbie
