If there is anything we can do, let us know, we can listen, we can support and encourage, or just be here with you.

all ER will do is make me be quiet in my pain... they don't DO anything for chronic pain patients

Even if they can't make it go away, at least you could get some temporary relief so you can rest. Please consider it.

Hugs,

Jan

_sky,

For your cronic pain, are you going to a pain specialist? I know my migraines were at a level 10 24/7......go figure....one non-stop migraine. For a while I was having to go to the ER every 3 days for a 200mg demoral shot......which relief lasted only the 8 hours of the shot duration.....then back to the #10. I finally went to a wonderful pain specialist that was willing to give me the amount of pain med that finally worked.......haven't had a migraine in 3 years (or at least any that I have felt) since on the large amount of pain med.

I am using the fentynal duragesic patches (2 100ug/hour). It is way more than they even gave my Mother when she was dying of cancer, but it has worked for almost 3 years. I really love the patch because it is on for 72 hours with constant pain relief going into the body.....not having to worry about taking pills when the pain comes back.

They told me that pain should be treated so that you don't have the ups & downs.....just constant relief.....does the trick for me,,,,,,but I know that what works for me isn't what works for others.....cause what worked for others didn't work for me.....lol.

Hope you can find some relief soon,
Debbie

Thanks all for you kind thoughts. I am only in level 8-9 tonight Level 10 pain physical therapy did some help, and he adjusted my TENS to burst and moved the electrodes to better spots (which I can't reach on my own.) That'll do for the evening.

Yes, eskie, my psychologist is a pain specialist, and my MD is supposed to be prescribing med accordingly, but she has gone holistic and doesn't believe anyone needs narcotics for pain now. sheesh. THAT'S what narcotics ARE for! I agree, and so does my physical therapist, and my psychologist.... that to even out the levels consistently constant manageable levels is best... but MD continues to cut back on the demerol... so that when I'm not in much pain, I tend to limit what I take to put into a "cache" for times like these when I need MORE to cover the pain... my cache is dwindling quickly... but my psychologist helps me to not think about it, as FEAR of future pain can wipe me out in nothing flat. (I'm sure you understand that, too.)

The only thing the pain center does is take you off all meds and therapy to evaluate your level of pain and ability (also thus putting you into a flare), then they put you on what med level you need, add physical therapy, a home program, and a pain management psychologist. I have all of that already. (And my psychologist TRAINED the clinic's psychologist... so go figure.)

The storm is near.. tonight, tomorrow? I have no idea if I have any therapy tomorrow yet... The "county system" called but didn't even leave a message. It seems I don't fit into their transportation time slots on these storms... they are so rigid. I can't go to a shelter with this pain anyway, and doing so would only make ME worse! I'm resigned to going through it alone with dog I guess... can't even get into closet on this one.

Thanks again for being here for me (sorry if I tiffed anyone off.. I have very little patience with this pain sometimes.)

There is no one. I've tried to see neurologists for this, but the insurance company gets to them and they either won't see me, or act like blooming idiots (through what they say) and aren't wanting to help (paid off by insurance company???) I've even tape recorded what they say and verify how they treat me... because it was unbelieveable!

I still have the demerol .. for what it's worth... Level 10 pain I tried all those other meds last year, remember? I reacted so severely to all of them! I'm not an addict... so I won't have that to go through...just constant increased pain. Part of my problem is not having enough to cover the pain all the time, resulting in my needing to store up a few for the higher pain days, which, in turn could also cause a high pain flare (because I'm not managing the day to day pain well enough.) If I do NOTHING I have enough meds to handle it usually. But my pt and T have urged me to increase social activity, for which I need MORE pain med for the increased pain... vicious cycle and I'm the loser.

sigh.

Sky...whereabouts r u in Fl.? I can PM you a wonderful GP in the Orlando are. He is one of the best Doctors I have ever met.

I moved away from Fl. two years ago to help take care of my dad who was in the nursing home..up here in Ohio. I really miss that terrific man as I have not been able to find a GP here that is sincere in his work. Just those who go thru the motions. This is 2005..there is NO reason you should have to be in such pain. If you r near Orlando..& r interested..I would b happy to give you his name and number!

I wish I could help with the pain. I know how you feel. My back is messed up after a pickup hit me at 35 MPH. The pain has been horrible at times. The neurosurgeon told me if I can stand the pain, I am better off not having any sort of surgery. I have noticed what sets off the pain and watch how I move, When it is bad, I send myself on a mental trip away from the pain. Things are better now. As I said, I wish I could help.
