Yesterday, I was diagnosed with wrist tendonitis. Looks like I will have to do less typing and spend less time online. Fortunately, it is not carpal tunnel. My MD has recommended icing both wrists twice a day and taking an anti-inflammatory medication. Riding my bicycle also causes the problem.

Anyone else have wrist tendonitis? If so, how did you treat it?

at the computer, you know you want to make sure the top of your wrist is flat, not bent back at all?

Also, if you use a mouse, if you are right-handed, move the mouse to the left of the computer, and use your left middle finger to right-click, and your left index finger to left-click - you don't have to alter the meaning of the mouse buttons. this way you are using the strong middle finger, not the sore index finger which I think the nerve runs thru the inside of the wrist.

be careful while sleeping not to bend your wrists, maybe wear supports.

don't carry heavy stuff for a while, like laundry soap and giant bleach bottles, that's what does it to me, carrying them with just a couple of fingers thru the handle.

Talk to your doctor before trying this, but one of my coworkers got "prescribed" something almost identical to what is shown in the link below, sort of like silly putty but stiffer. What he got helped him and I use the exact stuff from the link (and one of my favorite web sites) and it helped the pain in my wrists a lot.

But depending on your exact condition it could possibly do more harm than good, that is why I am strongly suggest you talk to your doctor before you try it.

Hi Unhappyguy.
I'm sorry about your wrists. I have suffered from the same thing. I got to a point I couldn't lift or grip anything or type at all. I had to give my wrists a break from all these things. I wore wrist supports (even at night when it was really bad because I would do all sorts of weird things when I was asleep). I would get the stiff splints when it was bad and then soft splints when it wasn't as bad and to remind myself to be careful. I would ice a lot. I got occupational therapy for my wrists. That i think was the best thing for me. Then when it flames again I just go back to the exercises/ice and being careful.

When it was really bad I couldn't grip things. I would get dirty looks on the subway because I would sit down (as I was a young adult and should have been able to stand up). However, I couldn't grip onto the railing and so if I didn't sit I would have had to wrap my whole self around the poles meant to hold on to. Unless I wanted to go flying through the train car. Cooking became a problem because I couldn't lift pots/pans.

I hope that it gets better for you.

Thanks Hankster, Googley and Mike J. It looks like I will be spending less time online! My MD recommended icing the wrists twice daily and taking an N-SAID. Online research found some stretching exercises. I have not been able to tolerate N-SAIDS for a while because of GI issues. Today, before getting the Rx filled at my pharmacy, I started an aspirin regimen to see if the GI system will hold up. I dislike icing but will give it a try. Stretching I like - it's so easy. Hopefully, both wrists will heal.

I had it a couple years ago when I was doing ceramics and lifting the large molds. At that time I was going to physical therapy for something else and they also then helped with my tendonitis. She would rub it and I believe put heat or maybe ice on it......bottom line is you need to rest it and then begin gradually to do the activity again......it did get better and I resumed my ceramics classes

I am being careful to not overuse my wrists. For example, I no longer grip the handle bars of my bike as tight. And, I've been stretching everyday. Also, I'm trying an anti-inflammatory med. I think part of the problem is that my arms are weak. So, I am starting some weight lifting but am not using my wrists when doing so. Thanks everyone for your help!

I hope your wrists are feeling better soon. Not being able to use your wrists really sucks. How is your testing for your other issues going?

Sorry to hear about your wrists. I like the idea of the wrist splints, esp. at night ( even though the diagnosis is not Carpal Tunnel). You probably already know this but if you cannot tolerate the NSAID due to GI issues you can look into using the newer topical NSAIDs (ex. Voltaren gel is one ) or perhaps a Lidoderm Patch to reduce pain. I hope you feel better soon. I will miss your posts

Sorry to hear about your wrist issues. I, too, suffer from weak wrists and I know how painful it can be.

As far as being on the computer goes, they do make ergonomic keyboards or split keyboards that I find very comfortable and easier on my wrists. They take a little getting used to at first, but once you get used to them you wonder how you ever made it without them. LOL

Also, there are plenty of voice recognition programs you can look into, such as Dragon Speak that can do things for you and you won't have to keyboard as much. That would take a lot off your wrists while you are resting them.

Hope you find good relief very soon!

It really is difficult when the problem is in both wrists. I continue to have other health issues, especially foot issues. I see the podiatrist tomorrow. Also, I am still suffering from CPTSD and insomnia and anxiety and depression. Lastly, I have gained almost ten pounds (possibly a side-effect of my anti-seizure medication) and need to go on a diet. Today, I did not see any jobs that were suitable for me. Hopefully, that will change tomorrow. I appreciate everyone's concern. Many thanks.
