weight bearing exercises really slowed mine down. walking, walking, walking and lifting weights. (campbell soup and work on up to heavier food) 15 minutes a day with the weights will do wonders. leg lifts and push ups...even if you can only do two a day, it's a start and it really helps your shoulders and back.......PM me if you need to......xoxoxo pat

maybe try to get your dr to give you the med that you take only one time a month. I think it is called boniva. I had that prior to my full blown osteo. you don't feel anything with it thank goodness but you sure do with the full blown. take extra calcuim too. also you might call your insurance company on that issue. they should pay for it.

"Osteopenia is treated by taking steps to keep it from progressing to osteoporosis and, for a few people, by taking medication. Lifestyle changes can help reduce the bone loss that leads to osteopenia and osteoporosis."

Sounds like it doesn't have to progress to osteoporosis and maybe you can improve somewhat to not need the meds or increased meds?

i was diagnosed with osteopenia ten years ago and have held osteoporosis at bay by lifestyle changes. i take no medication for it. if my doctor thought i should, i would take a med but he says i'm doing great......
