I've had a major blood clot in my left leg/groin area since May 2, 2013. I have been on blood thinner the entire time. It made some progress the first 3 months but since then there has been no reduction in size.
Has anyone else experienced having a blood clot that would not go away and if so what did they do for it?

Can it be removed surgically? It would be dangerous for it to break loose. When are you due for a check up?

Sometimes blood clots in the legs never do away. Here is a link with a good explanation. This happened to my brother-in-law. He has some chronic swelling in the affected leg. He took Coumadin (which does not dissolve the clot - see link) for six months but is off it now. It was thought he got a clot due to a previous fracture in that leg that caused some deviation in the blood flow.

Went back to the doctor yesterday and clot hasn't changed. He's changing my me to Lovenox and Coumadin to see if that helps. I'm terrified, the Lovenox requires it be given by shot twice a day. I have a fear of needles and this will have to be done at home. I don't think my husband will be to do it. Not looking forward to this change.
