I saw my neurologist today and told him I've been depressed. He wrote a script for antidepressants. I go to the pharmacy, and insurance won't cover it until the get authorization from the doctor WHO WROTE THE SCRIPT!!!!! If he didn't authorize it, why would he WRITE IT!!!!! I am at my wits end. I'm so miserable and the meds will take 2 weeks to even kick in!!!! And they won't give them to me!!!! Arrrrrg.......sorry.......had to vent. Thanks.

I have the same issue... in my case, my insurance company wanted me to take something less expensive instead of what my doctor prescribed, so the doctor had to call her to insist that nothing else would suffice.
Sorry Rayna ![]()

Well, my neurologist is cool....so hopefully he'll knock some sense into them.
I just finished finding my new favorite song to blast loudly --- Paolo Nutini - New Shoes. The song never fails to make me feel better. =)

Yah... what LMo said... lots of time it's the insurance who is like that's not on our list of "approved drugs" and they won't cover it unless they get a letter from the Dr. telling them why you need it.
I had an issue like this once... it was for a yeast infection and the dr. perscribed one kind of med but the insurance company wouldn't cover it so the pharmacist filled it with the "approved" perscription. So... 3 weeks later when I STILL was having issues I had to go back to the dr. AGAIN turns out I STILL had a yeast infection. Apparently I had 3 different types of bacteria and that medicine only worked to kill ONE! Let me tell you I was in major pain/ discomfort for OVER a month... I'm still fighting the insurance company over that. After many many issues with my health insurance I've decided I HATE INSURANCE companies!!!! I feel your frustration. I hope you get it figured out! |

So I called and left a message for my neuro AGAIN....because the pharmacy still can't fill the prescription and have the insurance cover it until he faxes the ins something saying why he wants me to take it, then they have to approve or deny. When I was applying for foundation assistance for my MS meds, the doctors office was quick. I guess depression isn't that important to them. Soooo frustrating! Depression and anxiety is bad for MS! I'm doin ok right now....but I'm sure another low will hit.....so I'm frustrated.

UGH! That stinks! I hate dealing with insurance companies. And that is really stupid -- of course he authorized if he wrote the thing. YUK.
I feel your pain. Insurance companies suck! Sidony |

Insurance companies suck. Paolo Nutini does not.
![]() My insurance company says it never saw a claim that both the pharmacy and the prescription insurance people said they have. That means I am out $150 until they get it together! Like I have that to just give up. ![]() My only hope is that there is a special level of hell reserved for bill collectors and insurance company employees. ![]() |

Wow. I think that is going a bit far... either getting an authorization from the insurance company for that particular doctor, or getting verification of the doctor so his info is correct and onfile.
I can see the need for both, due to all the script stealing..but really, for a known customer and for depression meds? grrrr Hope it's solved soon.

Hey
![]() Anyway, if I can ever help with an insurance question or issue, I will. Just so you know, the words "I'm going to file a complaint with the state Insurance Comissioner" are magic. And, once filed, the insurance company is notified. They have a certain amount of time to reply and the comissioner is included in the reply process. The insurance company is required to go after the information needed to settle the claim. Of course, they still are at the mercy of those providing that information, as they can't make them step up and provide it but they do go after it more aggressively than a regular claim. Insurance companies HATE to have complaints because they are on file and can look bad. Complaints are handled with high priority.... Sometimes it's fun to see management in a flurry of stress over it. hehe Even mentioning an IC complaint when calling the insurance company can help. When you make your calls to the insruance company or doctor's office, keep track and note the date, time, and person(s) you speak to. When you ask your doctor's office for something, also ask when to expect it. Remind them why it is important (for example that this is for a new med, not a refill, so you need it right away). Hope this helps! |
