Can anybody tell me what happens?

It's taking place at a hospital... what will be done, how are they fitted?

My grandma just had a fitting for hearing aids. They used a silicone gel to get a mold of her ear. She just said it was kinda cold, and there was a whooshing sound. I don't know if they'll do the same for you, but that's how they did it for her.

Yep that's how they did for me. (Well, one is a masker but same thing) They mix up a compound and put a bit into your ear just at the beginning of the canal. It only takes a few minutes to set up. Then they send that off with the specifications you need for a hearing aid, and the lab puts the electronics into the ear piece. You go back another day when it's done, and they make sure you know how to wear it, and that it works right for you and fits. And they teach you how to change the batteries, and to clean it.

I need to do this again.. it's been 10 years and wayyyy overdue. TC!

I didn't see this before... mainly because I posted at the exact same minute as you yesterday

So I don't actually get the hearing aids on Friday? I'd been hoping I would. But I guess it makes sense that they need to know what shape to fit the aids to...

Why not call them and ask if they make them there and if you can get them Friday? That would end the anticipation.

Yes, I got them today. They are digital hearing aids not analogue, and I think the ear mould thing applies to analogue hearing aids, or something like that anyway, so all the audiologist did was just to do some adjustments on the computer and that was that.

Apparently I'm only to wear them for about an hour a day for a while until I adjust to them. I had the chance to try them out in the room when they were being fitted so she could check they were the correct volume (which isn't manually adjustable) and I was pleased about the way it made sounds sharper, although it makes my voice sound very weird, lol.

digital eh? kewl I hope! Are they self adjusting then, for loud areas and soft spoken too?

Nope, not self-adjusting, which I think is a bit weird. There is a volume adjustment thing actually on them, but the audiologist said that the option of being able to manually adjust has been disabled, the cvolume is pre-set by a computer... she said that the volume switch was only enabled for those who had had analogue hearing aids for years and were used to changing the volume...

I'm so glad you are hearing better! You'll get used to hearing your voice pretty easily.

When I first got my aid (can only afford one) years ago they said to wear it for short periods to get used to it but I put it in and kept it in every day because I didn't want to miss anything more again.
