I don't take any medications, but I haven't been feeling very good for the past several months. I don't know if it is depression or anemia or what.
Everything tastes chalky and has a bitter aftertaste most of the time. I think I read that vitamin deficiency can cause taste to be off. I haven't been able to eat a lot of the foods I used to eat for the past several months, because they give me digestive problems. Wheat, nuts, soybeans, etc. seem to make me sick even in small quantities. I used to be able to eat these things in moderation. So I eat rice and vegetables and sardines and eggs. Besides the nasty taste, I also am tired my libido is gone and I have very little short term memory. I keep doing things twice and I can't remember doing them the first time - even after I see that I already did them. Like I might send myself a text message as a reminder and then send an identical text message to myself 5 minutes later with no memory of the first time. Or I might print something on my computer and then print it again 5 minutes later. Then I look and see that I printed it twice. I know if I go to the doctor they will just tell me I'm fine, because they are a bunch of lazy bozos. |

I have strange tastes in my mouth when I don't eat enough, but the less I eat, the less of an appetite I have, and they only way around is is to eat little and often and eventually you'll get a better appetite and the taste in your mouth will likely disappear

I get hungry sometimes, but usually I can only make myself eat a couple of pieces of toast. I am also taking probiotics pills, because I can't tolerate most food. The toast I eat is made from rice instead of wheat, so it doesn't bother me. Wheat and nuts make my stomach upset and give me horrible gas. Just a half dozen peanuts will have this effect or a few nibbles of a biscuit. I used to be able to eat as many nuts as I wanted without any problems. I could eat a half a jar of peanuts if I was really hungry. Anyway, thanks. ![]() |

I find eating yogurt easier to digest when I'm not feeling too hungry, anything bread-y or chewy is difficult for me. Fruit I find easier to digest when I need something inside of me - and a glass of milk if I'm feeling sick - I have had copious amounts of coffee again this evening, largely due to stress which is creating a lack of appetite, but managed to eat a 2 egg omelete for dinner.

You mention changes in diet.. do you get acid reflux? I know it can be a side effect of that.. here's an article that also mentions the following possibility, among others, that is related to dietary changes:

Thanks, that article has a lot of information. I am scheduled to see a functional doctor near Christmas time. Functional medicine emphasizes quality of life and so forth where regular medicine usually opts for the bare minimum (that is how I understand the difference). There seem to be a lot of causes for the chalky taste. I don't think I have acid reflux. I try not to lay down until the food is out of my stomach, because it will burn the esophagus. I have always wondered if I have a blood sugar problem, but the doctors so far say no. IDK. The doctors I have been seeing rarely want to investigate these things. They pat me on the head and send me on my way.

Have you had GFR testing done? It's a blood test, it measures how well the kidneys filter blood. That can be done at a regular doctor's office.

I have never heard of GFR testing. I am scheduled to see a doctor near Christmas, so I will ask about that. It appears that many things cause the chalky taste. I have been depressed a lot lately, and that is one cause for it too.
