Hello I would like info about how others with these injuries healed. My R arm will not lift up and my R leg will not straighten out. I was xrayed at the hospital. I have been wrapped, iced, and resting the "joints". It has been 3 months since the attack so it should get better than this still, right?
PS I am over 50 years old so I should heal slower than a young person but this still seems too long. So if you are young when injuried; please tell me how long until you regained "range of movement" also (I will add a few months for my age) Thank you.

Had rotator cuff surgery at 49yrs of age. It hurt like hell for 4 months!
Had PT for 3 months & doc cut pain meds off at 3 months. That forth month was still awful but gradually got better after that. But...don't regret it. Shoulder is almost 100% but still careful with it coz am almost 59 now, no spring chicken. Hope you are better very soon!! |

I am only 30 but I've torn my rotator cuff and never had surgery. Took a few months for less pain. I have full range of motion. Took. Few months.
I tore my ACL in my knee that I did have surgery for. Key to all of these joint injuries is PT. gotta work the scar tissue so it doesn't lock the joint. For the knee to help straighten lay on the bed stomach down with ur legs over the edge above the knee. Gravity will help straighten. It will hurt and don't do it very long at first. Pain bad, uncomfortable is ok. Uncomfortable eventually gets better. Really should go to ortho dr or PT. they can help u a lot better. Knee was one week straight leg brace then had to bend 90 degrees and start getting rid of the scar tissue. For torn meniscus it's I believe 1 month to 5 weeks straight leg but that's after surgery. Meniscus isn't invasive they go arthroscopy and generally just scrape it out. Still get a doctor to check on them and give realistic info to u specifically for ur circumstances.

Some years ago (I was about 42) I tore my right rotator cuff. Miserable pain. I had a cortisone injection and worked hard at PT. Eventually the PT did the trick. I did a number of exercises with those red or yellow bands. I've never had quite the mobility with my right arm that I used to have (although it's pretty good), but it hasn't hurt for years.

Ow *wince wince twitch* YIKES! You poor thing.
I mucked up my L leg/knee at age 14 playing basketball. Was n crutches for 6 wks, etc. But still ran track that spring lol (I was a wild child, i.e., dumbutt). Consequently have hd trauma-induced arthritis ever since, and am now on the north side of 50. Eep. Eventually had surgery at 24, then decades later had to have knee replacement, Then broke that out in a bad fall in 2006. Knees are just endless sources of delight once they've been messed up...they are such a pain! Physiotherapy imo is a must for any impairment injury. I hear you on the rotator cuff tear: Got mine fixed in 2006 and did lotsa PT; have never had any trouble w/it except some (oh yippee!) arthritis. Oh well. Srsly, pls go to a doc & have your poor self looked at: it's much better to know one is on the right course than to try something that perhaps goes wrong. Pls take care! Chyia, shuddering w/empathy |
