I've got a basic knowledge and have read some reviews online. Looking for some real life reviews.

My primary care doc said I should take them, so I do. I think they keep me more regular. Don't hurt, anyway.
Thanks for this!

I'm glad they help you but I'm not so much concerned with regularity if I understand you correctly. I'm interested in digestion. I'm about to start a high protein, high carb diet and I'd like all the help I can get with digestion. Did your doc recommend a particular CFU probiotic for your needs or just a particular brand name that he had personal experience with?
Thanks for this!

I found 2 that were highly rated for ingredients and value. Unfortunately the local drug stores sell neither.

I have the worst case of GERD any of the docs they send me to have ever seen. I asked about probiotics hoping that one might aid with digestion thus easing my symptoms. Every one of the docs and the two pharmacists I spoke to agreed probiotics work in the intestines. They can significantly improve waste removal, immunity, reduce yeast infections etc... but the only way they will help with digestion is if bacteria in your gut is off. But they all said that unless you've been on massive doses of antibiotics the chance of it being off is minuscule.

Thanks, that is interesting. I'd thought they might aid in digestion and absorption of protein. It's shameful that there is so much pure BS in the marketing of vitamins and supplements. The FDA doesn't seem to be interested in investigating and regulating these products.
I suppose you may have tried other so-called natural digestive aids like bromelain, papain, and other enzymes found in tropical fruits?
Thanks for this!

At this point I've tried about everything. The only thing that's ever offered relief was when they would drain my stomach once every three months. Even with the massive doses of PPIs and acid reducers I'm on they would get almost 3/4 of a gallon of extra acid and bile off my tummy. Then insurance said it was an unnecessary procedure and refused to pay for it anymore.

I've been to all types of docs and specialists but no one can tell me why I'm always so fatigued and sleepy and why I produce so much acid, bile, saliva and tears

She didn't recommend any particular brand. I have a history of intestinal and stomach problems, so they might help with that, too.

Ive tried the yogurts Activia and another brand in pill form. I didn't notice a difference in digestion but perhaps you need to take them for a long time. My son took them for a long time (years). They were an expensive brand which his doctor recommended. They didn't help or hurt him. The doctor eventually said to stop, because she didn't see it helping. Do some research. I'm not sure how they would work for athletic uses. Ya never know.

Probiotics are only recommended if you have digestive problems - and your own flaura has been decimated - like after diarrhoea when you would lose electorlytes as well - anti biotics take no prisioners and destroy the normal digestive workers so you need to take them then just to repopulate -

taking them when you are already ok wont do anything but take money out of your pocket - just my opinion and what ive researched for myself -

good luck

Agreed. I need something that works in the upper GI tract. I had my first high protein smoothie today. Protein powder, yogurt, 2 large strawberries, a handful of blueberries, and a few ice cubes. Six hours, an OTC Zantac, Pepto Bismol, and two cokes later I was finally able to eat again. Healthy food doesn't seem to agree with my stomach

The protein shake is working out better. I had to dig deep to find the scoop. I think the first time I used way too much. And then it could have just been one of those days... some days I can get indigestion from water

I drink kefir. As a bonus it is high protein. Sometimes I add frozen fruit to it for a smoothie.
