I have some seriously bizarre-looking, rather large spots all over my calves. They're deep red and the largest one is about the size of a half-dollar. Sometimes they itch, sometimes they don't. I'm hoping someone will have a clue! I'd post a photo, but I have to shave my legs first or risk embarrassing myself all over the Internet blotchy red weirdness.

I've had eczema before, and this doesn't seem similar. I have also had near-total bone marrow failure. When I was finally conscious enough, about 4 weeks into my 5 weeks in the hospital, to notice what the heck was going on around me, they had me sitting up in a chair one day and I happened to look down and shriek upon noticing that my legs were darn near purple from thousands of these little pin-prick spots. THOSE turned out to be from low platelets.

Since then (January 06), I've recovered from the aplastic anemia, but it left me with a blood clotting disorder. Odd things can happen when my blood thinner level is off, but this is the oddest so far. I haven't called my hematologist because I see him Monday anyway (hopefully it will still be warm enough to wear shorts!). I'm just hoping somebody has an idea of what I might be in for.

(((((((( Candy ))))))))))

I don't have any idea what is happening, but if it's too cold to wear shorts Monday, put on your jeans and take a pair of shorts with you. That's what I do and it works out great.

Please keep us posted on what's happening.

Hugs,

Jan

The hemo wrote me a script for steroid cream and told me to see a dermatologist if it doesn't clear up. He doesn't seem to think it's related to any of my blood-disease stuff, which is all I was worried about.

Are you going to get the cream and try it? It might be important to try to get those places healed.

Hugs,

Jan

hmmm, steroid cream - the treatment you put on any skin pathology

sorry I'm feeling very cynical today. but steroids do suppress the immune response to whatever is causing the reaction so it usually helps.
hmmm, dermatologists - if it is dry, put some moisturiser on it; if it is moist, put some alcohol based solution on to dry it out.
