I never have BBQ sauce. I don't know if I like it but feel I don't. Last night I picked up some hot bar chicken that I thought was not BBQ sauce but when I got home I realized it was. Nevertheless I ate the chicken and tried to avoid the BBQ sauce. Within hours I felt like I had a stomachache and like throwing up was a possibility. This morning my poop was all red. Or a very bright poop. (It didn't seem like blood but like something that had stained the poop) But I have been sick all day. Stomach giggling and not feeling like eating.

Did I get bad chicken or was it the BBQ sauce and why would that make me sick? But I just feel like it had to be because of the poop.

Not sure on that. Are you susceptible to food poisoning? I have to be real careful. I'm thinking it was the chicken not the sauce.

Sounds like possible food poisoning, not to alarm you but bright red in stools can be internal bleeding (this happens with food poisoning) - this happened to me once. If it doesn't get better in a day or so I'd get to the dr.

Thanks. Poo was still "rust" today but I think more brown. It doesn't help that I didn't eat much yesterday. My heart rate is 60 (normal) and I understand internal bleeding can cause that to go up.

I don't think it is food poisoning because I have had that before and it was much more violent. No way I was getting out of throwing up. I had a fever and the sweats. I don't have any of that here -- just upset stomach.
Hugs from:

From what you say it could just be a mild dose (whereas the other time you had it was really severe), the fact the colour is darkening suggests possibility of older blood, as long as that clears up in the next few days it should be okay.

Take out food is always a bit risky, there are so many variables - keeping food at right temperature being the main one that tends to go awry.

Still having rust stools but, I did want to note that for dinner on Wednesday I had a bag of carrots. I can honestly say I never have carrots. I have looked it up and that can cause rust or orange color. One might have thought that it would have disappeared by now (over 48 hours) but perhaps not. After that I had BBQ, and then yesterday I had a large plate of pasta. On the internet it said that if there was blood in your stool, as opposed to food coloring you would see stains on the toilet paper and I am not seeing that.

I am feeling more hungry and my stomach has calmed a bit.

I was on a medication but I have given that a rest to see if the stools firm up.

Hope your feeling much better

Well it is back to normal. It could have been the carrots or the BBQ sauce. Unfortunately I am still not feeling particularly well stomach wise. I decided to lay off a drug I was taking but that made things worse from potential withdrawal. I am investigating a vitamin B12 supplement that I have been taking..

Chicken that is not cooked properly can give people food poisoning. Glad to know that you are feeling better.

It wouldn't hurt to mention to the chicken bar that you were sick. They should not be selling improperly cooked chicken.

I know this is an older thread but it came up when I did a Google search about BBQ sauce and illness.

I finally figured out that there's been many times I thought I had a bug or food poisoning and it's actually been a violent reaction to the BBQ sauce.

If I eat it I get violently ill and vomit for about 7 hours. I'm not sure why it causes it but I don't eat it at all anymore.
