Hello everyone I'm 17, and I feel extremely unhealthy. I'm a guy I weight about 130Ibs..im very skinny, I eat little protein (meats), I also eat little fruits and veggies. I want to be more healthier so I feel better, I need a diet...that isnt about loosing or gaining weight but rather about being healthy...if that makes sense?

I eat lots of junk food and sodas...its addictive..I try to replace soda with gatorade/powerade atleast...is that healthier? I'm very fearful of my health because in my journey of therapy I've discovered more so times then not, I want to live. I see so many elderly ppl regreting being healthy at a young age...

Please help....I need a good diet....before its too late...any suggestions are good....

We didn't have fast food when I was young :-) McDonalds wasn't around until I was getting out of high school and the one "closest" to me was a 45 minute drive (if you can imagine that!) and a "treat" to go to!

Does your mother make dinner? Do you eat that? I assume that has meat, veggies and carbs, is probably a "good" dinner. I'd start taking your lunch 2-3 days a week and pack some string cheese, fruits, maybe carrots/celery and a little ranch dressing dip; get some more dairy, fruits and veggies into your diet instead of junk food.

Eat a real breakfast. It will make you less hungry for the junk later in the day, keep you filled up some. A good cereal (old fashioned like Cheerios or Frosted Shredded Wheat

No, gatorade and sports drinks are perhaps even worse than some sodas. Drink a bottle of water every now and then and, if you can stand it, a glass/carton of milk? Nothing replaces the water you need besides "real", straight water. That's one habit I would have gotten into sooner if I could have is drinking water. We didn't have as many sodas though either back in the stone age :-) My mother only bought my brothers and me 2 Cokes apiece per week.

An "easy" healthy diet to follow is the DASH plan. You can download that free here: http://www.cardioconnection.org/media/pdf/new_dash.pdf

Hey Moonkin...I have a Great Health shake for you! I use it twice a day..Its really tasty too.

1 cup chocolate Almond Milk (Almond breeze makes a good one)
1/2 Bananna
1 cup any berries frozen (Wymans is a good brand, Organic if u can afford it)
1 scoop whey or hemp protein (watch the protein powders some add caffeine and taurene which are stimulants which can make you hyper)
2 tsp flax seed (gives you omega 3's)
1 tsp Greens powder

Blend all this well in a blender and Enjoy! Its very healthy and
has no processed sugars and little to no fats. The protein will help u gain weight.

I like using frozen Blueberries, there my favorite! Strawberries and raspberries are good too.

Instead of Soda's and Junk food have one of these instead they are very filling and the protein powder has many Vitamins and minerals added for vitality and Health.

You can use Regular cows Milk if u wish but i'm not a big fan on milk because of the hormones and anti-biotics that goes into the milk.(theres other things i wont go into either)

Try to eat whole Grain cereals and foods in the morning for breakfast if u can. Salads, veggies and Fruits!! But atleast try the shake recipe to start.

Stay away from red meat if u can, with all the meat being recalled today its not worth the risk.Besides red meat is the worse thing you can eat. Chicken and fish is good if u like them.

I'm mostly Vegetarian and is the best way go but u have to make the change gradually. If u need more Info let me know. I would be glad to advise you on health and Nurtriton, since i have had many classes on it. Been to many seminars too.

By the way how tall are u? I'm 5' 9" small framed guy so my appropriate weight is 140. Height and weight charts are accurate to go by. (let me know i can help u on that)

Avoid Sugars, sodas, because they will play with your mood swings which brings on depression when u crash. I know that from personal experience myself. Stay as natural as you can as too what you eat.

Hope this helps You out Moon...Peace to you! Let me know how it goes?

a healthy diet consists of all the common sense stuff we all know but is a bit hard to actually follow in reality. lots of carbs, fruit/veg, fibre, protein, dairy and you still need fats

it would be most helpful to see a dietician as most of the diets you see around probably do not contain enough energy and enough nutrients needed for growing teenage boy and if you are lacking in things this coud make you feel lethargic.

Following a good diet and some exercise can help your mental health - so cutting out all that sugar and junk food may be a good step in trying to feel better.

good luck

hey dustin,

try starting with foods that you actually enjoy! particularly fruits and veggies, i know, ew, vegetables lol, right? but really, if you just scout out some different types of these foods, chances are that you find at least one that you like, or even love. i never used to eat fruit, at all, but i finally found that some of them are actually really tasty! start small, just with a piece of fruit every once in a while. ya gotta start somewhere, you can do it!

But starting today I did my very best to eat it, today it was treat/lettuce and french fries...not the best I know, but better then nothing. I told mom I'm gonna start buying some more healthier foods tell me what you think.

1 apple and bananna a day or atleast 1 of those a day. Some peaches,, what about pops cereal for breakfest? Or Corn Flakes? Hmmmm what are some good drinks tha are tasty but not unhealthy...so far I drink soda,powerade/gatorade, and breakfest drinks which are chocolate but supposedly have vitamens that are healthy.....

Oh and I'm about 5'4 and 130Ibs..pretty slinder as you can imagine and short.....

I no nothing about diets and being 17 I dont feel accessible to help from dietiens in my small area...

Hey Dustin your weight is in a good range for your height. You describe yourself as being small framed right? Medium frame guys at your height may weigh a little more but you are at a good height.

I am 5' 9" and weigh 145 but i am small framed. Thats is the proper weight for me. Its better to be a little thinner than a little heavier. Obesity is a huge prob in the US. Especially with kids now a days. It leads to many diseases. So sounds like your at the right weight for your height...Peace out... 17 and feeling unhealthy plz help....
