A hot ash from hubby's cigarette blew back (in wind) and went right in my eye. Well, just like anything else blowing in eye, I flinched and blinked and blinked to get the crap out.
Well, um, I'm concerned because my vision is messed up. I see shadows all around anything I focus in on (to right and left...especially light) and it feels like there's a film fogging my eye. It's bad in that eye, but also happening when using both eyes together. My other eye is fine. Should I wait a bit to see if it does better, or do you think I should go straight away? I'm asking because I have definite white coat anxiety and don't trust my own judgment on this. I know I would tell anyone else to go now. Thanks, KD

I think eye injuries should be evaluated right away. I hope you'll go and have your eye looked at KD.

It's about two hours later and my vision in that eye has improved by about 50%. The "film" has lifted about 25-50% and instead of having two shadows to things...there's only one on the right-hand side.
I think I'll wait another hour or so to see if it continues to improve. The pain is completely gone as well...it's not red or anything anymore. I'm hoping my eye was doing it's amazing "self-protection" thing and doing what it had to to protect itself and that what is affecting my vision. But, yes, it's still concerning. For instance, when I cover my left eye I can't see the words in this window I'm typing in. It's that blurry and there's a right-sided duplicated shadow to the words. I just don't know, at this point, what Urgent Care can do, and if I'll need to get to an eye doctor on Monday? Thanks so much for the advice guys. I'm gonna go talk it over with hubby right now. KD

eyes can heal pretty quickly but you probably need some medication in it right away. I would go ahead and go to urgent care. I use to get stuff in my eyes all the time and ended up with scratches alot.

Thanks so much for the information, pegasus. It helped to calm me down on this a bit.
Well, I think it's going to be just fine. I talked to hubby who's burned his eyes with metal even before, and he said that it takes a few days to heal but it will more than likely be just fine. He said it's probably more irritated from the foreign stuff in there (ash) than anything. As of now, about an hour since my last check in, the vision is even more improved. YAYAYAY. I still have a shadow, or double, right-handed vision but it's less and it's alot less blurry. I can now read what's here when covering my good eye! Wow, this is a first for me and I thank you so much for sitting with me through it. I was, and still am a bit, really anxious! KD

Awwwww KD.....I just saw this...sorry to hear that happened. How are you feeling now? Is the eyesight any better now? I'm willing to bet in the next 24 hours it should be back to normal for the most part. Keep it moist hon....some eye drops that don't dry out (not for redness) like natural tears might help.

yeah be careful, your eyes are important... even if you hate white coats its probably better to get it checked out right away - dont want permanent injuries right?
Not to scare you but I got cleaning fluids in my right eye and it hurted and blurred day one, was blind the next - nothing the doctors could do for it anymore. So am glad to hear your vision is improving - hopefully it will be fine on its own. But if it isnt by tomorrow - please do go to the hospital. Better safe then sorry right? Blue

If your eye isn't better by tomorrow I recommend going to the hospital, I agree that you should try to keep it moist. A trip to the eye doctor is probably in order, any type of eye injury can become infected so they might want to put you on some antibiotic eye drops. It is amazing what can damage your eye, I had a cat swat me in the eye(didn't even use it's claws) and now I have a warped cornea. ![]()

It would have been good to have an eye cup with saline solution to soothe the eye and wash it out. I didn't notice if you had that. Good for the 1st aid kit.

It's almost completely normal!!!! Wow, that was so very scary! This evening, though, it's normal with not even the slightest discomfort. I can't believe how much my vision was affected! It's weird that hubby was just seen for an eye infection and has some drops. I think I'll use them for the next couple of days just to be safe! Sky...good idea about getting an eye cup and solution here...especially with kids, not to mention me (the klutz). LOL. Thank you all so much. You truly helped me. I was really freaking there for a bit. Love ya's! KD

Thank you so much for rooting for me and helping me through this. My eye is exactly as it was before it happened...no lasting anything. ![]() I still think I'm going to use the antibiotic drops for a few days just to be sure, but that's it! ![]() KD
