I've just yesterday been diagnosed with IBS. I'd been having hiriffic abdominal pains and other such symptoms, so have been put on some meds for it and such..

I don't know if this is related, or if it's to do with a recent rape where one of the guys tried to have **** sex with me, but.. *is embarrassed* Everytime I 'go', I bleed, and it's been really, really painful for quite a few weeks now.. Although it's died down, it's still really painful and has had me reduced to tears.. So.. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do.. To just leave it another few weeks (on top of the 8 weeks I've left it so far), and see if it goes away, or to go back to the dr about it and see what he says..

I've shied away from seeing the dr about it because I'm so embarrassed! I hate going to the dr's as it is, although I don't mind when I see the dr I now see regularly, for mental health check ups. But, I'm just.. Kinda stuck with what I should do..

Anyone got any clues?

Oh, and another thing.. Had some stitches in my leg 6 days ago, because I cut quite badly and I can barely walk today. My leg's so achey and painful, along with it giving way now and then. I don't know whether to go back to the hospital to get it checked out tonight, or just wait until my 10 days is up to have the stitches out.. I've got choir in 15 minutes, which means standing up for an hour. If I can't walk at all without my leg giving way, or without collapsing, I'll go to the hosp. But for now, I'm not sure what to do.

Sorry for the whinge!

(((PND))) please call your doc and get in there. you need to tell the receptionist about the bleeding and for how long cause then she'll see it's an emergency and get you in maybe today. your doc needs to check out the bleeding...asap. it could be more serious than u expect. forget being embarressed if you can try, please, cause this needs attention!
while you're there have the doc look at your leg too. let us know how it goes...and please call your doc.we care about you!

Ohhh... I wasn't that worried about it.. It's happened before.. But never this bad.. But.. Oh no!

Do you have any ideas as to what it could be? I'm in college all day, so I'll have to do it for tomorrow.. If not I'll talk to the nurse at the hospital about it, when I go in about my leg..

Uh-oh.. And there was my boyfriend telling me to tell my doc about it.. I was too embarrassed. Hmm.. I guess I'll have to do it now...

(((((((((((((((((K-))))))))))))))))))) Please see a doctor, or see if your fav nurse is working at the hospital. The fact that it's happened before doesn't make it ok, it still needs checked out. Your leg is really worrying me, too.

Should I go to the hosp about my leg and if she's there, tell her about it? I mean, the last time I saw a doc about it was when I was like... 10.. When all the abuse started... It's gotten worse since then, but they just put it down to too much pressure building up, stress etc.

Gahhh!! My leg is itching sooo sooo soooooooo much!! Keeps giving way again, too
And my ribs hurt! The same ribs I broke a couple of years ago. I hit them on the corner of Charlene's table last night when I was opening a window, and my hand slipped off the handle and I fell oopsie.

I used to work for a gastroenterologist (affectionately called by those who worked there, the "p**p doc"). There are some questions a receptionist or nurse would ask you about the bleeding...so I will ask them and maybe it will help you decide how much of an emergency this is. First, what does the blood look like? Is it dark brown? Does it look like coffee grounds? Is it bright red? How much is there? Does it turn the toilet water bright red? Or does it tinge it pink? Is there bright red on the paper? How much? Pinpoint spots or more then that? Is there blood at other times? Do you find blood in your undies? Where EXACTLY is the pain? Is there pain after you are finished? For how long? Is there any itching?

Now te explanation...coffee ground looking blood is probably coming from the extreme upper GI tract (stomach usually), this is an emergency. Dark brown blood is also upper GI tract, but lower than stomach and is also an emergency. Bright red blood that turns the toilet water dark red, and/or leaves lots of blood on the tissue, and/or is there at other times, is lower GI tract, but still an emergency. Pink tinged water, pinpoint or small smears or even one medium sized spot on tissue, itching, pain specifically at the rectal opening that lessens after but is still uncomfortable later, is usually due to hemroids and/or irritation...the irritation could be due to IBS or the other thing you mentioned...or both together. This is not an emergency, but should be checked out soon, to make sure that is the problem, and also to get treatment if needed. A GI doc can cauterize bleeding hemroids, or remove them (surgically). This type of bleeding is very common with IBS.

As for the leg...get it checked ASAP. It is possible you have an infection, or some other problem going on. There are signs that indicate an infection, butthe leg is a large limb, and the signs may be deep under the skin, so not visible, but still there.

hey sweetie,
i had what sounds like a very similar problem last year. like you, i was too embarrassed to go to a doc about it for a few months. serafim has asked all the right questions - if the blood is dark brown, it means it is 'old' blood and is coming from somewhere high up in you, and this is bad and needs checking out immediately. go to a hospital.

if the blood is 'fresh' and there is a lot of pain, then it is possible that it is just a haemmerhoid or a fissure. a fissure is like a tiny little cut - kind of like when you split your lip? it hurts like hell. to me, it felt like sh*tting glass shards, it hurt that bad.

now, you have left it a long time, and usually fissures heal by themselves in 2-3 weeks, and i am guessing that that is what you have. but what you need to do is go to a doc, and they will do a physical, and tell you what is wrong. if it is a fissure, then they will give you an ointment that will help it heal. if it is a haemmerhoid, then they might refer you to a gastroenterologist.

if the blood is dark - then go to the hospital immediately. they will want to check it out.

just fyi - i had my 'issues' checked out by a gastroenterologist and there was nothing embarrassing about it at all. they give you an anasthetic so you are knocked out, so you don't remember anything when you wake up.

i hope you go to a doc/hospy today and come back and let us know how it goes. if you have any questions, feel free to pm me, if you'd like.

It's hard to explain.. I mean.. It was mostly bright red blood, and lots of it.. But sometimes there's brown blood too.. And yes, i find blood in my undies. Quite a lot of the time, actually.

There's always pain after I've finished, sometimes for like 2-3 hours and even to the point where I can't sit down at times. And the pain is all the way through. There has been itching, quite a bit of it.

It's strange, because it stops happening for a few days and then it starts up again, but even when it stops bleeding, i still get the horriffic pain.

I'm just waiting for the time when my favourite nurse is there. I don't want to talk to anyone but her about it, I trust her.

if there is blood in your undies, better get it checked out as soon as possible, love.

can you ring the hospital and ask when she's in next? that way you won't miss her if she's in sooner than you drop by.

I will try and do that, I'm just so damned busy at the moment.. I told my dr I was on top of my work at college, but now.. My work's beginning to get ontop of me and I'm really struggling, so..

Yeah, my tutor's being a ***** about me not wanting to go to uni. When she was going through it with everyone just now, she gave me the dirtiest look ever and said "Kirsten.. 's not applying". Ugh.

IBS is acting up today as well.. Just what i need when I'm in the middle of college, feeling really ill and crappy. Blergh.
I'll try and get this sorted as soon as I can.

hey - this problem is a lot more important that college, darling.

trust me. i'm at uni and had to almost take a year off because i let the problem get that bad. i kept postponing it until i had the 'time to deal with it' but eventually it demands attention.

i had to go in for surgery to get it all checked out and fixed. docs said i was lucky, because they were worried it might have been cancer.

now, i'm not saying this to scare you - but only to encourage you to make this a first priority. if you fall back in college work, that's ok - you can get med certificates to explain absences, missed work etc. college can always wait - sometimes our health can't.

please see your nurse and come back and let me know how it goes?

*Sigh* I'm so ill today, but I forced myself to come to college.. i feel sick, I'm weak, I'm tired, crying my eyes out at every opportunity I get and I just.. I feel so.. Lost If I told anyone how ill I feel, they'd force me to go home, but I can;t go home because I won't get my EMA. Connor'd blame me for not getting up on time this morning, because my phone feel out from under my pillow, so i didn't hear my alarm going off. I broke down just after he came off the phone to me, saying don't get annoyed with him because I woke up late. I wasn't getting annoyed, I was in the midst of brushing my teeth, I was p*ssed off at myself for getting up late.

I so need a warm, comforting cuddle right now but no-one will give that to me because.. As it seems to me.. no-one likes me.. And now I'm going to get asked about whether I've written my lyrics for the song in the band I'm working in for improvisation and I haven't done anymore and they're probably going to say they're s**t and I'm panicking and all over the place.

i think I'm gonna be sick if I keep on like this.

I'll get my boyfriend to come with me if anything. I won't go today, I'll go on Monday when he's got his day off, unless my favourite nurse is in this time.

So.. Yeah.. I'm not too bad today, I'm feeling ok. After a pretty tough workout yesterday, I'm a bit tired but it's a good tired

I was dx with IBS over ten years ago and I was having the same symptoms you are describing with the rectal bleeding... and while you may be just having a bad bout with your IBS I would still suggest that you go to your doctor to have it check out because it could be some thing more serious... and you will never know until you see someone concerning this medical problem.

Ok, ok. I'll talk to my dr when i see him on Wednesday. I'll arrange an appt to see him then and I'll talk to him about it. Along with all the other crap people are nagging at me to talk to him about.

My friend, Emily is worried taht I'm not eating, she's checking that I'm eating something every morning now Just want to starve for the rest of the day grrr!

I know it won't do any good for my IBS though, so I'll go get it sorted.

Sweetheart, we nag because we care. Don't think of it as nagging, think of it as poking. It also shows that you are important, if you weren't, no one would be poking you to get yourself taken care of

Thank you.. I've had an awful day today.. Everything's gone from bad to worse..

The bleeding's come back with a vengeance, it's pouring out, literally and it's more like period blood now, it's that much. God, what do I do? And then I completely broke down last night and today I forced myself not to cry, and punched myself a million times, pinched my chest so hard I think I cut myself I feel like such a bad person today and I feel like I'm doing everything wrong.. I screamed my head off too, ruined my voice.. This was because Connor and I were arguing.. yet again.. Because of my room being a mess, because I don't care if my room's a dump, I'm trying to sort my head out and spend as much time alone out of that room as possible.

So yeah, the pain's back, not so bad, but the bleeding's even worse. *sob* I can't take one more thing going wrong. I'm that ____ close to od'ing again
