I have been denied Medicaid, and I don't understand why. I have no income, and one child at home. Do other people have problems getting Medicaid to?

I'm sure they do. The government is really tightening up. Do you have information about the exact criteria required? (It's probably on Google or some such search engine.) Also, the letter of denial didn't explain why? Shame on them.

Dear MR1,
Where did you go to fill out Medicad Form? Also because you have no income, where do you and your child live? Who is supporting you/child, if you live with your parents and they file tax returns with you and your child as dependants, then you would not be eligible. If you live with your boyfriend/baby this may also disqualify you if he is working. Do you understand that medicade and medicare are two different programs. Are you sure you applied to the right one? There is another program, Family care. There are ways to become eligible in both cases. Dont worry about the denial letter, turn it over and choose to appeal, you have a certain amount of time to do this. You can Pm me Happiedasiy ![]()

They have to verify everything on your application, just saying "I have no income", if they can't show whether that is true or not (as happiedasiy says, where are you living, what are you doing for food, etc., it's not about money) then they will deny you because the paperwork isn't filled out completely. Here's Florida's eligibility requirements explained:

I am in Louisiana and I am in the process of paperwork for Medicaid but there are several types of medicaid here. I have private insurance but the cost of my daughters medical bills because of her recent being diagnosed as BPD. It is a buy in program. Kind of like a supplemental insurance.
I hope you appeal their decision. If you live with someone that pays the bills, wether its a family member or significant other, there is a way to include them but not have them count against you. I had to get a letter certified from my mom when my kids were younger, I don't know what has changed since then and what state you are applying to but good luck to you! |

There is most likely a question on the application that asks if you and others you live with (if you do live with others) buy and prepare meals together. You must answer no in order for them to not count the others income. Also, if you have no job they will make you go to job developement unless you have a medical exam/work limitations paper filled out, which social services provides. Good luck, i know its difficult and confusing.

As said it depends on where you live. I am in missouri and didn't qualify for medicaid but had so many mental health and pysical health problems that after jumping through the hoops of fire i was eventually given disability medicaid (has nothing to do with whether u qualify for disability or not).

Hello MR1.
I am on medicaid, and I am from New York. The first time I applied; I was denied. I had no income, just came out of treatment for depression, and could not get a job as I was not allowed to work yet. That being said, a trend I have seen not only with me, but others, is that first time applications tend to get denied. Which is ridiculous. My advice would be to call your states Medicaid office, ask them why you were denied, then apply again. My second application was accepted and I have been on medicaid since 2009. I know it is stressful and annoying, but the trick is to just keep applying and repealing. It's ridiculous how they run the medicaid system here in the US. I think if you apply again, you'll get it.

my point is to have all these things it takes money... money to go buy food, clothing, pay your rent or own your home (in which case you pay taxes) food and clothing for your child and pets, have meds, see doctors. another word for having money to do these things...it doesnt matter if someone is giving a person the money, whether they are bartering for it or have a job and getting paid its still called ...income. Medicaid program is based on all kinds of things including the income and bills from what I posted above... it should say in your denial of medicaid letter why you were denied and how to appeal/reapply. to answer your question.....no, when I needed medicaid for a short time, I had no problems getting it. |
