A question is, "Do men workout to impress women?" The answer to that could be yes and no. Alot of women may like built muscular guys or men just want to workout to help themselves. But, in some cases, some men may want to show off just to get the woman to like them.

LOL, how could I not reply to this one ?!!!

Being brutally honest, I love lifting weights, and I do it because I enjoy it, and it does MIRACLES for my health - both physical and mental. I am a fitness junkie, though.

And YES, I do it to get looks from the chicks (I never get more than just looks or a smile), and to get some respect from the guys too. And to have the strength to break the skull of the next guy that tries to mug me.

But, to answer your original question, impressing women is pretty low on my priority list. It's mostly for my enjoyment, health, and to pass the time till I breathe my last.
Thanks for this!

Great way to state it, Lilodian4ever. I enjoy the little compliments I get from anyone. But that isn't it. It's for my own benefit. I would have killed myself out of depression had I not joined a gym 2 years ago. I truly consider it the best thing I ever did for myself. Strength training isn't my passion, I do it because it is essential in the grand scheme of things.

I just bought my 7th bike, a full suspension mt bike - pretty clear where my heart is.

To me it's all about feeling good and taking care of myself. Our bodies need to work to be healthy. A healthy body is a beautiful body and let's face it, we all desire beauty.
Of course inner beauty is more important, but if you think about it, it is irresponsible and neglectful not to do what it takes to be healthy in body mind and spirit
Thanks for this!

Nothing major - it's the title of a U2 song. I'm a big U2 fan.

As a recovering addict, I love the endorphin rush of working out! The strength, endurance and flexibility are just a bonus. Never really met too many people who work out cause they miss opiates. BTW, I'm in my 50's and still go to the gym almost everyday, even though I had to start cutting back in my 40's. And yeah, women like a toned physique, even if they're not as superficial as we are. Also one of the best things for us anxious/depressive types.

I turned 38 this summer. Twice a week in the local gym and twice some times 3 times a week on the bike covering about 10 mils a go. I dont have rock hard abs yet or chunky legs but I do feel better about myself when I look in the mirror. So far I have not shown myself off to any women so I guess I am not doing it to empress any of them. If I were to get a girlfriend though I am sure I would feel better looking good as opposed to what I looked like 2 years ago. Back then I could not get in to my jeans and boy that was depressing.

The answer is Yes. Most men will have other motives as well, including feeling good and liking the way they look, but all of the marketing around fitness would not be targeted as it is if that were not the case.

I workout myself. I'll tell you why I do it:

I want to feel attractive.
I want to be stronger.
I want to be healthier.
It's a good stress-reliever.
It can attract a level of respect from others, particularly males.
People side-swerve you in the streets. xD
Better chance of defending yourself/others should it ever come to that.

'bout it, for me. Suppose there's definitely an animalistic part of me that wants to impress a woman... caveman style! *grunts*

I've known guys that would even take steroids and nonsense just to get bigger and look tougher for the women. Talk about insecure. Why any self-respecting woman would want to date someone like that is beyond me ... oh ... he's confident. Yeah. Right.

I competed in powerlifting because I loved it (until I started bursting blood vessels in my head, then I still loved it but with bursting blood vessels and had to stop). It wasn't for the ladies, it was for me.

I think its true, but in a round-about way. We want to look good, for us (and feel healthy etc etc...) but ultimately a lot of self-improvement boils down to being attractive to prospective mates when you get beneath the surface.

People have answers for "why" but if you keep on boiling down the answer towards the subconscious, its usually because we want to be competitive in the gene pool.

I work out to feel better about myself, when i get an admiring look from a lady it's a bonus, but that's about all i get is a "look".I've lost most of my self confidence these days....
