I am looking to contact any other hair pullers. I can't seem to find any anywhere and I know they exist. I am a scalp mainly crown puller and I would like to find others to discuss triggers and ways to resist and also other traits associated with this illness. Are there any of you here?

Hi Mandy. Welcome to the forums! I don't have trichotillomania, but I am familiar with it as a former roommate's boyfriend had it. He kept his hair incredibly short so it wasn't as bad. I suppose since (I assume) you are female that is not a choice. Fellow trichotillomaniacs

I hope you find someone here that can help you!

Hi -- I'd like to dispute the "short hair is not a choice" notion. Short hair, especially styled in spikes, can be chic.

Not in this case...by short, I meant shaved, 1/8 of an inch at its longest. Fellow trichotillomaniacs

But you are right, that length on women can be becoming.

Welcome to PsychCentral. Please keep posting here, but I searched Google and found self-help website for people with trichotillomania:

http://www.stephiesmith.com/tricho.html#selfhelp

On that site I found these two support groups which have message forums you might want to check out:

http://lilboh-nfl.dnsalias.com/trich...hp?name=Forums

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...mania-friends/

I didn't review either forum, but they both seemed to have a lot of posters. But, PsychCentral is also a GREAT place to meet wonderful people, so stick around here too! Fellow trichotillomaniacs

Hey 1Day -- Didn't realize you meant that short. But, bald worked for Shania O'Connor (Irish singer --remember her -- I may it spelled wrong) and cancer survivors wear their baldness proudly as a badge of what they've been through. Could work for the right person. Gutsy thing to do, though.

I had a friend who rescued dogs who used to have her hair very short in a "guy" cut -- but perhaps not the U.S. Marines look 1/8th inch look. Close though. She was married with a kid, BTW. Looked good on her.

I got a case of researchmania! I can't stop myself. I research stuff to reply to a post sometimes, and then realize I have spent so much time on it, if I post all that I'll look like an obsessed lunatic, so I don't even post it!!

Now you all know my secret! I am in fact a research obsessed lunatic.

Mandy,
I too suffer from Trich. Welcome to our boards. It is really great to find people to talk to who are going through the same things. Since we are hard to find in this world.
Feel free to pm me at any time to talk or just post.
Welcome again.

Jessica

Hi there, welcome to our forums Fellow trichotillomaniacs
This is probably a common question, but have you sought professional help? It can work, medications can help too.
When I was in the hospital there was a girl, very young, that was a "puller" and then even just cut random strands of hair, needless to say it was not the haircut one would pay for, sorry, no pun intended.
The point is that in 10 days professional help and medications helped her immensley.
Sad, that her parents were just begining education on this problem, but at least they were starting the support the process.
Hope you'll consider professional help, if you already haven't, there is help and hope.

Take good care now,
DE
