Wants2,

I have to admit, I was a bit taken aback by your 10 item thread. I suppose mostly because I'm new, and not familiar with anyone or this place.
Everytime I post or for that matter --speak- the 10 items you listed are the things I fear people are thinking of me- to see that on a list was a little shocking! But I do realize- those are issues that I must work on myself and nothing that you brought about.

Putting that aside- I must say- you are an excellent writer. And for what it's worth-- I do appreciate this current thread- as a newcomer - makes me feel a bit more at ease.
Thank you- wants2fly - I apologize to those whom I've offended

(((((((((((((((((wants2)))))))))))))) I know you didn't mean to hurt anyone. For myself, you made me laugh and looked at myself a little closer. Thank you. Big hugs.

Thereis nothing to forgive wants2. Nothing at all. I thoroughly enjoyed that thread and I think it was a wake up call for many here including myself. And you're doing the right thing for those who were offended. You're amazing and I appreciate you very much. Take care friend.

I wasn't here when all that went down and I'm glad. That thread could have been taken a dozen ways, but primarily I think the main concern is that judgments of that nature become a convenient excuse for the smug and self-satisfied to not have to care about others, and that's the bottom line. No one who is truly in pain or truly hurting wants or needs to be judged according to that type of criteria. Now, for those whom the shoe actually fits? That's a "horse of a different color" altogether, and in that respect your list, Wants2fly, makes a lot of good sense as a mirror or a self-eval tool. But for people who really have not been of that ilk, yet have had to struggle with every time a legitimate need arose being treated as though they were, it could indeed be a devastating trigger.

Your talent as a writer, though, is intact and without question. I wonder if you could pen so eloquently upon the nature of supportiveness and the reasons to see the best in hurting people? It would be an interesting exercise and counterpoint to your "10 Items" list, and I'm sure, with your talent, a terrific read.

Attempting objectivity,
Mal

Good points Malady. The "shadow knows" that I'm often of a mind to assess things of various natures with the kind of "realism" displayed in the 10 Ways. But as far as coming out with it (and here, a place where we can't insist that people have skins of even average thickness), maybe a good question to ask is: if someone registered and made that as their first post, would defense/support/perception of good will likely be the majority interpretation of it. The standard probably shouldn't be different.

The shadow also knows that in my heart of hearts, I love to phrase things in what I think is a humorously sarcastic way. But I'm trying to face that the intended innocence (or so I may be telling myself) is likely to miss its mark, especially in writing. And, packaged with a certain tone, a message that really was worth delivering can get hopelessly muddied. The same points could have safely been made, in a "have you ever considered.." "I just thought maybe this could help many of us..." kind of way. But as someone who also enjoys writing and putting zip/punch in things, I do know that wouldn't feel nearly as satisfying.

I also think that in life in general, the mirror-type argument is a too-easy but not necessarily fair "win." One of those situations where to disagree or hold another opinion whatsoever -- here, whether about list contents or appropriateness of tone/posting it, etc. -- will be unilaterally used as proof of something lacking, faulty or indicative. Not many things in life over which we're permitted no differing opinion, including passionate ones. So it's often a *no* win situation. And, in any event, we probably can't consider our creations/utterings to be somehow "professionally formulated" to the extent that we can conclusively declare them accurate mirrors of something else. At the least, I think it's fair to say that what's "fair" here is to concede that any objectors do have a point (and it isn't necessarily something about them).

I just like the philosophical stuff, btw. I mean no negativity here myself, and may be missing MY mark! I very much enjoy wry humor and again, I certainly saw the points in the list and know there is often truth to them.
