Hi there,

I got myself into some financial trouble. and With this next paycheck on Friday i have to pay rent $600 and a car payment $234 car insurance$150 = 984 and I only get paid $880 plus I have another bill that must be paid otherwise it goes to collections and that is $777. I don't know which bills to pay and which not to. I can go 800 overdrawn but i need money left for food. my car insurance comes out automatic so that's not an option to skip. I'm already late on my car payment by a week. sigh. i hate this neverending cycle of financial turmoil. I was doing so well a few months ago, i just don't know what happened.

what do you recommend?

Could you ask your landlord if you can just pay part of your rent? Explain your situation to them and assure them that it will be paid immediately when you get more money? Good luck, i hope you figure it out

I don't know your situation that well. If you think you can work this out, then delaying the rent is an option. On the other hand, I always think that no matter what else happens, as long as you're not out on the street, you can keep some kind of a life together. Unless you live out in the country somewhere, you can probably survive without a car better than without a home.

Do you have anyone who loves you enough to help you out with a couple hundred bucks? I know it hurts to ask, but that's part of life. If you have a cluttery apartment, have a garage sale to get some grocery money. (I just had a garage sale to pay for cleaning the carpet in the house I just rented.) But I see you're young, so maybe you haven't accumulated that much junk yet!

Anyway. This one's a toughie, and I don't envy you one bit. I know exactly what you're going through. But in the end, you have to decide what your priorities and options are. You seem like a sensible person, and I'm sure you will find your way through this. Believe in yourself. You will find a way.
Thanks for this!

I personnaly would cancel the ins sell the car and be better off all round.

If thats not an option then try to postpone the ins and phone the car people up asking for it to be postponed a week also.

Rent to me is not an option you need to have a place to live so I wouldnt jepordise (spelling) it in the least.

im on a fixed income and in order to keep things "under control" i try to list every bill i owe something on. then divide it up into minimum payments. dont forget to pay yourself.

you can't squeeze blood from a turnip. one can only do so much. best wishes!

With the recent economy creditors are more likely to work with you if you contact them with a definite payment plan. Sit down and write it all down on paper, what you earn verses what you owe and your necessities. I find a calendar very helpful in this case. Look at it in black and white, if you’re constantly robbing Peter to pay Paul a short term solution really won’t help. You have wants and needs. You need a place to live, power, water and food to eat. The rest are luxuries with the possible exception of transportation if no public transportation is available.

If your car payment is beyond your current means, contacting the creditor holding the note or even your own credit union to negotiate lower payments for a longer period of time.

I know a great deal of our disposable income is wasted in the “food” category. You can make big dent in your food budget by really looking at what you’re buying. When things were very tight, I have been able to feed a family of 6 on $60 a week reasonably well. I certainly couldn’t do it every week, staples need to be replaced and it’s very helpful that we all love rice.

tarabug,
Just a suggestion, but it may help you to contact Credit Counseling Services through your community services...here they are under United Way.
They were able to help me whenever I had a problem, also. My counselor helped me with contacting my creditors, making short term arrangements with them, then help me set up a viable budget that helped me get back on my feet.

There is no charge for their services...please don't go to one of those "debt relief" places. Many, not all, take their fee upfront...leaving you in a worst bind.

Best wishes,

Catherine

Is there more than one bedroom available so that you could share rent with another person?
