when it rains it pours...i guess

I have been having a really rough week with anxiety obsessve thoughts, etc.. Well I told myself before I went to sleep today, I was going to have a good day whether I liked it or not. Because last night I yelled at my 7 year old and made him cry. So I spent the rest of the night cuddling with him in bed and watching T.V.. I just got fed up with myself being a b**** to everyone. So I got up. I am having dizzyness as usual but I get my kid off to school my husbadn left to go to work. So I laid in bed for a while watching the today show and I fall asleep. I wake up an hour later and my husband is home. Already I knew today would be a bad day again. He got fired. The lady actually told him "Well you shot yourself in the foot by being in the hospital" If I had been there I would have smacked her silly. My husband called once and i called them twice to let them know he was in there. And they fire him anyway. We went through the proper things so he would'nt get fired and he gets fired anyway. What b.s.!! I'm so pissed off. I wish I could work. I want to work. But I stay in such a wierd mood that I have to force myself to get out of bed and take care of my son and myself. Ho would I hold down a job? My head constantly spins. Sometmes I have the feeling of not being real. It's just so much crap

So sorry to hear you husband lost his job - that's very unfair. Is there anyone above this lady who he could talk to. I don't think an employer is allowed to fire someone for being in the hospital? I hope everything woks out for you and your family.

Thank you all. To answer your questions, my husband would love to work for himself. He is a very talented carpenter. But tools and those things are very expensive so right now he's just settling. And a for talking to a higher up at his work, That's who said that. They got their wires criss crossed and one said yes he did call and the human resources girl said well i did'nt get the message. Same old same old. He has Crohn's and when he gets a job he tells them right off, "I have this diesese. At times it will cause me to miss work and sometimes I might have to be hospitalized." He always makes that clear so they kno when the hire him that if he has to miss 3 days due to a flare then they know it's his Crohn's not him. But this is the 2nd job he has lost like this. He will work there for 8 months or so with no problem then have a flare and end up in the hospital and they fire him. For not calling. When I know the peopel have been notified. It's all ridiculous really. If they already know he is going to be sick at some point then why go through the trouble of hiring him only to fire him 8-9 months later? It makes me so mad

They sound like really bad employers. I'm sorry you are going through this. Maybe this will be a turning point for the better some how. Hang in there.

Thunderbear, I'm thinking that your husband needs to get some info from the Labor Board. If the higher up boss got the message, then your husband should be fine.

I'm so sorry TBear, this just sux. My nephew has Crohn's and he has never had to deal with such sob's. What more could he possibly do? He needs to talk to a good ADA attorney and find out what his rights are. This is just stupid. I am so sorry.

I’m with Vickie on this one, since your husband has disclosed his illness to his employer they cannot terminate him because of this on-going problem. Which I suspect is why this message was “lost”, they can terminate you for failure to notify them of a flare up. Was this a long distance call, did you call from his hospital room, cell phone, any way to prove that you did in fact call? The publicity alone is enough to shake them up, do consider contacting the labor board or American’s with Disability lawyer.

On a different note, you should seriously consider talking to a doctor about the issues that you’re having, not only so that you can get a job, but so that you can live a decent, predictable life. The dizziness can be an indication that something is seriously wrong anything from blood pressure, blood sugar, well the list is endless, but those were the causes of mine. It can also be something minor but it’s certainly worth finding out.

Yeah, the dizziness thing could be as simple as dehydration (I don't get thirsty that much so I have to keep track and drink when I'm not thirsty), hyperventilation (often happens when we're upset) or it could even be some weird food allergy or an inner ear condition or any of the more serious things that AAAAA listed. With everything else you've got going, you don't need that, too, especially if it's something easily fixed.

And, yes, it does sound like your husband was fired unfairly, and at the very least he should be eligible for unemployment benefits.
