I want my T! I want to scream! I WANT A NEW JOB!!!! Can my T call me in sick to work?! As predicted, they are starting the paperwork now to get me booted out (IF I don't *quit* first!) since they learned that I am homless one week ago. Getting that email reply about me being homeless with a changed title to "Personnel Issues" and the goings on since has me pissed. I WANT OUT! Heck, *THEY* want me out! They refuse to give me a copy of a write-up for "work perfomance issues". Can they do that?! Can/How could I use mental health issues without them wanting to get me out even more? Or even if I could get a reduction in hours for a temporary sanity break. I don't believe that anyone works there part-time, so I don't think they will want to go for that option. I need a mental rest, but I have very limited options. I need the money. What more can I possibly do?!

Is it a big company? Can you talk to someone in Human Resources? Explain that your management THINKS that you are homeless (and you aren't under any obligation to confirm that, I don't believe) and that you need some advice?

((((inky)))) make them fire you! Don't give in. Plus, once they fire you (if they really follow through) you get to post a response to your firing, into your own file and then anytime they give out your work history, they have to send your rebuttal with it. (Keep a copy for yourself, also.)
If they fire you, can't you also collect unemployment then? Sheesh... taxes are supposed to help ppl like you!

No, that's not a good idea -- it's going to make it harder for her to find the next job if she does that. My vote is to find a way to stick around until she can find a new one to land on, then quit pronto

I just looked up the Department of Labor website and found this link:
http://www.state.il.us/agency/idol/laws/law40.htm They *MUST* allow me a copy of my personnel records. They can charge a fee for the actual cost to copy, but they must allow copies. I could start to harass them and file a complaint with the IDOL. Or should I point out the law to them first? I like the idea of going for the bigger guns, though. |

Hey, I was at the ER tonight for an ear infection. Maybe I could use that to take off work tomorrow for a sanity break?

I don't like the direction this is taking... I think you should FIRST scout around for a new job and THEN try to negotiate with them. What happens if they say "ok, then keep your job" and then you're stuck working with people who know that you're one who harrasses and threatens lawsuits?

Sky - I meant about making them fire her. If she's not going to stay there, then for applying for other jobs, she at least needs to be able to say that she's quitting rather than being fired.

I agree with LMo about how it's easier to find another job WHILE you still have one... inky if you don't go in, then that adds to their case of releasing you... do your best.

I'd be known as the one who stands up for her rights, I think.

Inky, I agree with you in principle, but it sounds too Hollywood for me. You'd be in a better position if you first took the HR channel and if you do whatever you can to make sure your credibility is impeccable.

Inky.. unfortunately you would still be a small fish in the big pond... employers just can't have er hire ppl who are going to cause them problems (that's the way they look at it.. I'm all for sticking up for your rights...) It's something you have to weigh... and usually using as much patience as you can is the best bet.

There is no HR--they *are* the HR.

Ok, then start looking for a new job, pronto, and do your best to do only stellar work. That really stinks, Inky, I'm sorry

Work is stressful but you can do this. I know you need a break could try and talk to your boss about amount of hours. If you are stuck to you have someone close to help you out. e.g. family, friends, theripist. If not try and do your best to deal with it, if you need the money. {{{{{{inkblot}}}}} Sorry my advice is not the best but at least I try to answer.
