I'm reeling from the hurricane still... and... I need to share... I can't believe I'm in this situation... lots of background mabye I'll share all that later, if I can.. my thoughts... BUT My MD told me she doesn't want me driving. and, long story short, after she said this, I asked her for something in writing so I can use transportation services, and she said, "No." I'm limiting my driving as much as possible (those who "know" me know that's very limited to begin with!) and when I see her in 3 1/2 weeks, I'll make sure I "heard" her correctly? I didn't share this earlier... reasons... but the sadness of it ...the impossibility of it..... too much...

i don't understand your MD saying no driving, but then not facilitating you in gaining the help you need to get around? honey, that doesn't make sense (on her part, not yours)!

why doesn't she want you driving? but most of all, WHY WON'T SHE HELP YOU GET SERVICES??? that seems like some cruel tactical move.

i'm so sorry you're in this position. does t know of this and, if so, what is he saying about it?

be safe,

kd

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Sky}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} All comments accepted. Why are you going to wait 3 1/2 weeks to make sure you her heard her right? Why not put in a call right now? What does she expect you to do if you can't drive and can't use the transportation services??? She obviously doesn't understand the impossibility of it all! I also understand how difficult it is to ask someone, anyone, to help you! Would it be possible, though, to call your church and ask them to bring you what you need? They SHOULD provide these services. After all, it's Bible mandated! If not, how about the Salvation Army or the Red Cross? You know if I could, I'd fly out to you and drive you myself, but alas...! How about your son? Are things progressin in a positive way for you? (Yeah. Ok, ok! I know! All comments accepted.) I'm thinking any port in the storm and a great big gulp of pride. Hang in, Friend. Between all of us here, someone's bound to come up with a viable solution. Love ya!

Sky, i can't believe your doctor! and i don't understand her reasoning about transporation. what does she expect you to do, to obtain what you need? i am so sorry that this has happened to you. the doc that i worked for regularly wrote out explanations for our patients, so they could use state transportation. i am stunned! xoxox pat

Oh mama, I so feel for you! I can barely think straight after hearing your story, I'm stunned too at what has happened. I hope you are able to call soon and ask questions, you of course deserve help with transportation.

Good wishes to you, I so hope it all clears up soon.

Please call your Dr and see if you heard her correctly. If you did hear her correctly, please make sure she realized that you live alone and need to use transportation services and that you can't use them without her help.

Stand up for yourself!

Hugs,

Jan

_Sky,

How about if you call your Dr. & tell her you have written up a letter explaining the need for you not to drive & the necessity for you to be provided with needed transportation.....then have her sign it.

I know that many of the Dr's I see don't like the paperwork of writing letters & will either refuse or procrastinate even if they agree......take the bull by the horn.....write the letter yourself, call her & ask her to sign it for you because the situation you are in is impossible for you to tolerate.

Just a suggestion, but have found it works many times for me.

Good luck, you shouldn't have to put up with a lack of transportation...that is plain torture.

Debbie

Thanks all.. I see her (MD) every EVERY month. I think putting the queries off until the next appointment at least buys me this time. Maybe.. maybe SHE was having a worse day than me??? I mean, she had NO CLUE as to "why" my pelvis was out of place (hello? I've been disabled for 18 1/2 years..this happens all the time..muscles pull bones out of place, that's why she writes the authorizations for physical therapy) She was quite clear in her expectation, and her denial... and merely "shrugged" when I explained I can't use public transportation. I don't know what I am hoping for.. I don't know... but avoidance definitely seems the best I can do right now...

Me again.

I have tried to share this with just a few IRL ppl... but... I probably shouldn't have. Sigh. They react like I would to hearing someone's DOCTOR said they shouldn't be driving, ya know? Any background info sounds like excuses. 2 ppl were acquaintances in 2 different churches...

I go through swings of : yeah, I'll call my MD up and find out what and why... and that will put a seal on my NOT driving... to: I'll be patient and very careful this month, cut down on driving, but wait until I see the MD in 3 weeks to see if this can be worked out.... to: the heck with this! I'm tired of struggling with life and it only gets tougher and tougher and I get NOWHERE (feel like going what is it? 200 mph in NEUTRAL) I'm outta here! and then back to : I can't believe I'm in this position, I can't NOT drive... How am I going to figure this out? How can I get out of this well?

_Sky,

The lightbulb just came on.......all the movie stars & business executives & all the really IMPORTANT people (like you) have their limo's & cheauffers.......you deserve at least that & it would solve you problem of getting around without having to drive.

Take care & keep your chin up...cheauffers don't know how to drive 200 mph in NEUTRAL....it would be a completely safe solution.

Or you could buy a horse. They have 4 legs & can do the moving from place to place for you......the reins aren't a steering wheel.....don't think the saddle would do much for a pelvis being out of place, but it may with luck knock it back into place without having to do PT.

I'm not trying to make light of your situation.....really thinking about it, I would be horrified being in the same place. I remember when I had my ACL knee reconstruction 19 years ago & had a full leg cast on my left leg with a stick shift car. I actually got into my car thinking I could just shove my hip forward & get the foot to make the clutch work.....I know the feeling of being desparate when I just sat in the car sobbing cause it didn't work the way I imagined.

Take care & see if you may be able to hitch rides from your friends.....I know I don't mind helping my friends when they need to get around.

Thinking of you,
Debbie
