((((((((((((gurl))))))))))))) well done!

i'm sorry that you're having such a hard time. what are some things that think can help you to relax enough for sleep...reading, warm bath, quiet movie, music, daydreaming in a safe place?

i wish you well. i know you're going thru a hard time right now.

be safe,

kd

Hi gurl,

I know how frustrating it is not to be able to sleep. There are lots of reasons that might keep you from sleeping. Can you tell us a little bit more about what's going on?

The thing that worked for me when I went though a time when I couldn't get any sleep was (first of all) to start taking St. John's Wort, which helped to get my depression under control, and also to use an herbal tea with chamomile and valerian at bedtime. I used one with kava also, which helps for stress and anxiety. The combination makes the sedative properties of all of those herbs stronger than any of them by itself. And it doesn't make you feel drugged or wake up with medicine head either, like some sleep aids will do.

I don't know if this is right for you, but it's what worked for me. We might be more able to help if we knew more about you and what you have already tried.

Hi, gurl. I am so sorry that you are having trouble sleeping. It really does affect our life in a very negative way. Are you trying any herbal remedies or any meds from a doctor? Please tell us what we can do to try and help you. xoxoxo Pat

I've been having trouble sleeping too and I know how much it sucks.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is exercise -- if you're physically tired, it's sometimes easier to relax mentally. Just don't exercise less than a few hours before you want to go to sleep, or it might have the opposite effect. I know this is easier said than done, but it usually helps me.

Another thing that might help is to have a bedtime routine. You could try giving yourself a certain amount of time to worry about whatever is on your mind (for example, you could write in a journal for fifteen minutes), then do something to help yourself relax (music, warm bath, tea...), then go to bed. If you can't fall asleep after twenty minutes, get up and do something boring for a little while, then go back to bed. Personally, this makes me less anxious about whether I've managed to fall asleep yet when it's some ridiculous hour of the night.

Well, I guess all of this advice is easier said than done, but it's definitely worth a try. Here's a webpage about difficulty falling asleep: How to Sleep Well. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi gurl and welcome. can't sleep help I like to read just a little when I go to bed. If I concentrate on the book then I'm not thinking about my troubles.

I agree with Katt about concentrating on your breathing. I like to do some deep breathing like I learned in Yoga. It helps a lot to relax me.

I'm glad you're here and hope you'll continue to post. can't sleep help

Hi gurl,
I've had sleep problems on and off all my life. It's very frustrating, and the more I worry about it, the worse it gets. There's lots of good advice in this thread. I use chammomile tea when I can, and when things are really bad, I take ambien.

Here are some tips about sleep behaviors that can help with developing a routine and good habits about sleep. (I should do better at these, too!)
Sleep Hygiene Tips

1. Keep a regular sleep/wake schedule
2. Don’t drink or eat caffeine four to six hours before bed and minimize daytime use
3. Don’t smoke, especially near bedtime or if you awake in the night
4. Avoid alcohol and heavy meals before sleep
5. Get regular exercise
6. Minimize noise, light and excessive hot and cold temperatures where you sleep
7. Develop a regular bed time and go to bed at the same time each night
8. Try and wake up without an alarm clock
9. Attempt to go to bed earlier every night for certain period; this will ensure that you’re getting enough sleep

Hope you find some good rest soon!

And welcome to PC.
