Dr. Weiss who wrote "Only Love Is Real" and another Doc whose name I don't remember now claim that they use past-life regression therapy to help patients who have been unable to get any relief from convetional psychotherapy. What's your take on this subject?

Since I am a believer in past lives, I think this would help greatly because you see the theory is that what you struggle with in this life could be caused by past life experiences. That's probably why they use it. I for one would love to try it since I have found that I have not really recovered from anything that has happened in my life no matter how hard I seem to work on them.

Hi Psychee, Great question. What are we made of anyway?
I do believe in reincarnation. Sorting is an adventure in puzzleland. Which bit goes where in the greater scheme of things?

I feel like I connect with, or am repelled instantly, by people I have a past life history with: stuff left over, to finish up, in this life. Good and bad.

I haven't done regressive therapy, though I've read about it and how it can provide breakthrough contexts for healing.
Mostly I want to say, I don't think there's any "one way" to all the answers. And, that answers tend to pop up when I least expect them! The important thing for me is to be more and more open and listening to myself to find my own truth.

I hope this made at least a little sense.

Back in 1999, I went to this discussion about aura healing and past lives at my local Wild Oats. The lecturer lived in Miami so I thought that she must have heard or read Dr. Weiss' book. I asked her how much it cost, and she said, "About $300 per session."

Imagination, dreams, meditation etc. may hold the answers.

I believe that it may help if the person believes a past life may be affecting them strongly in this life. I'm a reincarnationist to the core, but I have doubts about the methodology.

I'd be afraid to go to any type of therapist who wanted to hypnotize me. The subconscious mind is a sponge, and you don't know exactly what the therapist is putting out there for your subconscious to suck up & then spew out at an inconvenient moment. Not to say that past-life regressionists or hypnotist therapists are 'out to get' the patients, but you never know what they might say or do that your subconscious mind is going to latch on to like a pit bull...

Right now, I feel like sipirituality is missing from my life. I used to believe in past lives, but I am not sure anymore. Some of the clues that New Age authors provide as evidence to past lives could be explained otherwise. For instance, "if you have a strong attraction or dislike for a certain culture, it could point toward a past life." I had a strong, almost fanatic obssession with anything Japanese. Recently, I have discovered through journaling that I started feeling this way in an attempt to feel better about being Peruvian. When I was a kid, my mom used to idolize the Japanese culture and put down the Peruvian culture. After her long monologues (she has the bad habit of thinking that whenever she likes something or is having a problem, I ought to listen to her without ever voicing any divergent opinion. Those were the days I couldn't even talk about my problems without her interrupting what I was saying or fighting my battles for me.), I would inexplicably feel like I wasn't good enough, and that in order to improve, I had to become like the Japanese. I would spend my spare time cutting out pictures of Japanese people from magazines like Newsweek and National Geographic, and hoping that by staring at them, I would become "Japanese."

I believe in the POSSIBILITY of past lives. I've wanted to see what I'd get from a reading of my past lives, not specifically as therapy, but just out of curiosity. Some psychologists believe what you get is really just something that comes from your mind, perhaps stuff you've read in romance or other novels, etc. I don't know. But I'm open to it.

I'd say, what could it hurt, but I suppose there is potential for damage, depending what you find out and whether you believe it to be real (or find out later it is/isn't real), but I think it's less likely to do damage psychologically than financially, if that's an issue, and time, although I don't think it's time wasted to try it out. If you do it, I'd be interested in what you're willing to share. If you prefer to keep it private, though, we understand. What's your take on past-life regression therapy?

Hi NICO,
I have read about people having past-life memories through dreams and meditation, but imagination? I don't understand.

mabe our imagination is an archive we can tap into of all our past lives combined, a collection of fragmented memories. mabe meditation can defragment them and give us the clarity we need to access them.it so easy to get lost in thoughts of the past and future the irony is focusing on the present will give us true insight into these things. the best way to do this is to focus on your breathing, you will find that voice in your mind will gradually become more distant until it is nothing more than an echoe in the void, no substance at all just sound. like many things though this takes practice at first youll notice how loud the voice is and what its willing to do to keep your attention so you must be patient because this voice in your mind is a very old friend and finds it hard to let go. listen to the body, listen to the drone of the world even, but don't listen to your thoughts if you want to know what the present is because thoughts are further from the present than the senses, just commentry of perception. please bear in mind i am new to meditation i still believe it is good pathway to peace of mind.
