The original injury was a car accident. My car was in a boulder slide. Not rock, boulders. It pitch black with thunder, lightening and pouring rain...right out of a Hitchcock movie.

I did great until I was in the car with someone who was driving like the ***jerk*** he is and slammed me full force into my seatbelt. It's not anything that can be charged against insurance though.

Hugs,

Jan

Hi Sky,

You're absolutely right. I have a terrible tendancy to turn sideways and do things. I don't know why and I've never thought about it much until I read your post. Smart thinking!!!

Jan

How about contacting the Girl Scouts and/or Boy Scouts of America. See if you can get a Senior Troop Leader help you by having her (I know about G.S. but not B.S.) enlist girls who want to do community service to help you. Perhaps a few at a time could come over and do your cleaning and laundry for you and earn community service points.

Also, perhaps you could contact your church or local high school to see if a message might be posted asking for assistance.

As to vacuuming, the Swiffer company has a non-electric "sticky" pad mop-like thing that is supposed to pick-up stuff off of a carpet and floors. There is no suction but at least any visible stuff can be picked up. Also, I know there are tub and tile sprays that are advertised as "spray-on" and rinse off products.

But, I imagine that ANY pressure from pushing/pulling or lifting should be avoided.

Man has a brain to help solve problems. Just take it easy. You've already found solutions to several.

Jan,

My sister is disabled due to malpractice. She is almost completely blind now, has almost no equilibrium, and is in constant pain from her fused leg. The reason I mention her is not to compare disabilities, minimize yours or anyone elses, but because I use her fortitude to get through some of my toughest days.

She found a house and through SSI and a state disability dept? was able to modify things in the house that fit her particular disability. Is something like this possible for you? She is also able to use a van service that helps her shopping and gets help with cleaning her home. She found out all of this through the disability office.

Also, as regards to the time you spent on outings with your friend, perhaps you could start a new tradition and have coffe, watch a movie, discuss a book?

I am thinking of you and wish you well. Pain can be very draining and consuming, no matter where it comes from -

Yes, Cub Scouts (the young ones) and Boy Scouts also do community service and assistance with needy people. The oldest youth in the Boy Scouts are Venturers and include girls...

Well, with regards to modifications, since I'm tall, when the house was built I had them raise all the counter tops so I wouldn't be bending down to work on them. Maybe you can get cutting boards that are thick to work on, making it a higher surface for you and keep you from leaning forward?

I think you need some help with how you can keep your back muscles strong, since if you don't keep toned, you will have complicating problems as you go. I really don't know what you can do to stay toned. It's a difficult problem for me.

Wow Jan,

I am so sorry you are going through so much.....that must be hard living like that for so long. I remember not being able to do things when I had my neck fusion without being able to do anything & I had to move my body around just to see cause I couldn't turn my neck with the brace on it for months.

I do have a suggestion about the floor vacuuming & floor washing......in all of my HSN TV watching while my depression has been keeping me in bed, I saw this machine that has been invented called the Roomba. which is a robotic floor vacuum & seems to have high ratings from the people who have bought it.. It runs about $274.90. There is a companion for washing the floor which is the Scooba floor washing robot which is $399.90. I think there are some filters that are needed for the vacuum. It can be found out about at the web site hsn.com under the "for the home" & cleaning appliances. I found it amazing because the technology was developed for the space program I think at cal tec.

Maybe you could get your Dr to give you a prescription for something like that. It is so amazing what they have come up with but in my home the poor machine wouldn't be able to find a place of the floor to clean. I don't seem to have an empty space while packing to move. It is really amazing the things they come up with......at least the space program has been worth something.

When my Mother was getting bad, I found several groups that would come out to her home to be with her at specific times of the day when she needed help. Unfortunately, she never got to that point in her life.....but there are actually wonderful groups that are available to help people who are disabled......just one thing....make sure any of your valuable things are way out of sight & locked up......even with bonded groups, after the experience I had, I learned to protect meself & anything that is valuable to me before anything else.

I do hope things will work out for you........sometimes when the initial situation slaps you in the face......you just don't know where to turn....but with time & searching your area, you will be able to get the help you need.

Praying for you to get better,
Debbie
