Most of the phrases that made me grit my teeth I divorced. what are your least favorite words to hear?

My mother is wonderful and over the years has developed a vast knowledge of mental illnesses and health...so no problem there.

One she does tend to say, which makes me feel a bit guilty:

**When I was on my own I had to watch every penny.

The words I least like to hear come from acquaintances or coworkers:

1. You're too sensitive

2. You're too serious

3. I don't want to hear all the details (then don't ask me to tell about a situation because I'm all about description. That attribute also marks a good writer. what are your least favorite words to hear? )

4. Lighten up

5. You wear your heart on your sleeve (another version of "You're too sensitive.")

At work:

1. Let's get on the same page (I'm always looking for the book...lol)

2. Here's what I have real passion around (Heard this one just this morning in a meeting. To me passion has to do with love and romance. In the business world it apparently has to do with a pet project of someone.)

3. Let's see what's driving that (Looking for a car now)

And the one that literally chills me to the bone...when my boss says:

"I need to get with you later" what are your least favorite words to hear?

ooooh, I despise it when my husband says "get over it". It really pisses me off. Not everybody can whiss their problems away by ignoring them. He acts as though they can sometimes.

I am not happy with New Jersey Care right now. Why? They exclude people who obviously need decent medical care because their income is supposedly too high, when those people have to struggle to make ends meet. There are 'working poor' that I know who have to choose between medical care and putting food on their table..as for my knee pain, I don't need anyone minimizing what I am going through. I am scared that I might have to have surgery...and surgery means being put under anesetshia which I had a reaction to when I had my palate closed in 1978 which was terrifying.

I think you misunderstood Catherine -- she was stating the words and phrases she doesn't like to hear, not attacking you.

Sorry if I thought I was being attacked. I tend to jump to conclusions sometimes..

I have a hard time with having to hear cuss words, especially when people cuss at their children...

Oh Kim, I can't stand it, either, especially when people curse their children. I'd like to go up and show them what it feels like to be picked on by someone their own size.

I don't like to hear cursing either. Aza, can you tell your boss the next time he says that, Yes, Let's do lunch! lol Hey January, isn't "you've got" also a grammar trigger??? Ok, nobody mind me, we're all "just" ranting, right? what are your least favorite words to hear?

I hope that everyone who becomes irked at the "I understand" would be able to read it at PC and realize that it is a viable phrase? Maybe by affirming that it's ok "for PC" would help it not cause reactions IRL.

And that's the point of the thread, isn't it? To bring to our own attention the words/phrases that push our buttons, so we can lessen their negative affect?

Can't with a "u" instead of an "a" (makes me grit my teeth and ball up my fists - more degrading than the "eff" word)
"Just another card she's playing" - my father's definition of my bi-polar
Being referred to as "she" when I'm 10 feet away and I can hear every word of the scathing conversation (two women at work like to snipe about me, but don't have the guts to approach me and say it to my face)

"You should learn to relax and take life less seriously" when I'm worried about something that is IMPORTANT what are your least favorite words to hear?

"You'd feel better if you just stopped whining" ARGH!!!!! what are your least favorite words to hear?

I'm sure there are a lot of others.. Luckily my memory isn't too good. These were just said to me few days ago by a "friend", to whom I'm not talking anymore. I seriously might strangle him the next time he'd say something like that. And that's so not even the worst things he has said to me. OH! And the he has the guts to suddenly make me the bad guy by saying "I'm not talking to you before you start treating me as a person and apologise" ..grrrrrrr!! Why isn't there an exploding from rage -smilie here?

My family is the only one that take me at all seriously, almost all my "friends" are these "you're just lazy" -sort of people.

Oh yeah and also the:

"You want to...
"You feel...
"You don't feel/ want..
"That's not how you think..

Or something similar.. Anyway, people telling ME how I'M feeling or thinking or what do I want etc. It's probably the most infuriating thing in the world!!! Often I'm explaining something, I might have difficulties expressing myself, then the other person tries to "help" by not in their mind guessing but thinking they finish my sentence correctly. Then when I say "No, that's not how i think/feel.." they start ARGUING with me about it! what are your least favorite words to hear?

OH!!!! what are your least favorite words to hear? And The Most condescending thing said to me:

"You're just a sad little girl" what are your least favorite words to hear? what are your least favorite words to hear?

said with that pitying what they seem to think consoling smile on their stupid face what are your least favorite words to hear?
