Also, it's always a good idea to consult the community guidelines, which can be found here: Community Guidelines

Yes, but at least for a while, that info may be available cached on Google or on The Wayback Machine (if personal info is cached from this site).

For the time being, I feel it is a good place to start by removing our personal info, I've just removed my own personal, this whole affair is getting me down.
I posted about all this a while ago, people basically jumped all over me telling me this was not something to be concerned about, I'm well confused about this site.

There is no problem with any outside search engines viewing this site. If you google your PC screen name, it will not come up from posting or from being a member. (If you blog or have contributed to a newsletter, it might. But only what you said in blog or newsletter is available, not anything in forum.)

Also, if you use or note your screenname from here and post it on a searchable site, like MYSPACE, then you have allowed those search engines view it from THAT site, not here.)

I'm so sorry that you new members have come just at this time. This isn't a common occurrence, this violation of privacy. It happened. I'm sure DocJohn will give us more information as to what happened, how it happened, why or who and what to do to help keep it from happening again, and all that..... in HIS CHAT TONIGHT at 9 pm in the Psych Central Chat room. Might as well try to go into the chat room now, so you're sure to be there on time! If you have trouble, PM any member whose name is in GREEN. They are moderators and can help you.

To add a note of security, only members who have signed in may go into chat. If you are not in chat, you can not see what is being said. Also, only if you are a signed-in member can you even click on the number to see WHO is in chat. Those who are not members cannot see any of that. DocJohn did that to help keeps us safe. personal information

Well, I did a quick search on The Wayback Machine, and while nothing comes up for "forums.psychcentral.com" (as opposed to "psychcentral.com," which brings up older versions of the main page up to 2003--the rest are blank), doing a search for "forums.grohol.com" brings up about five pages from 2001 and 2003 of those forums.

I don't know if it would prevent me from getting in if I were not a member (I didn't try it logged out), but some links that come up in Google take me to the forums. I'm not a hacker. I just used the Google option to search a site.

Ok, I just did a little more searching, and I was able to use Google's cache of the Psychotherapy topic, and I found a thread from 12/10/04 called "Re: therapists and parenting." In fact, there are several links to various topics and threads.

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but you're wrong that stuff members said won't show up. I tried Googling my username, and that didn't bring up anything. But if you use the right search terms, you can read some messages. I'm not saying they're all available, but I did find some.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
