Hi folks,

Sorry I've been offline for the past day or two and missed what happened with one of our members here, wi_fighter. I was very saddened and upset to hear of her story, where apparently where a real-world agency was contacted about her membership here. This action resulted in the expected result -- she was unable to complete what she was doing with that agency.

I believe this is a very serious violation of the spirit of the community we've spent the past 5 or 6 years building. Anyone who can be so spiteful and hateful as to use a person's opening up and most personal writings against them is not someone who is welcomed here any longer as a member.

I'm personally launching an investigation into this matter and am seeking to find the member who did this. I do not want any member who feels it is okay to do something like this to be here any longer. You can save me, the community, and everyone else a lot of time if you just step forward. But if not, that's fine too. What you did is beyond belief, beyond words, and beyond understanding.

I'm aghast at this incident and can't believe one of our own members would do such a thing. I can't make you swear an oath or anything, but it is understood that the posts we make to our community are for our community only -- that's why they are not indexed by search engines. Directing outsiders who have no interest in support for a mental health issue goes against our very mission here. If you don't understand this, then you don't understand the purpose of this place.

I'll be in touch...

DocJohn

Thank you DocJohn, for taking this seriously.

What happened can't be undone, my credibility with this agency is forever tarnished, FOREVER. Do the people who did this to me understand the concept of forever, or did they just think they were getting away with a fun little prank? You affected my daughter and my son and all of those people at the agency, not to mention friends in my 3D world and 99.9% of the posters in here. I'm excluding the ones who were involved in this action. You might very well have made it even harder for future adopters to get a pet with this agency, people you don't know and have no anger towards.

Do you people know that my 15-year-old daughter is afraid to sleep alone in her room or to be home alone, and that she wanted a dog to be here to comfort her? Did you know that? No, you didn't. Did you know that my son has been wanting a dog of his own for YEARS that could offer him some unconditional love? Did you? No, you didn't.

Your intentional malice will NOT prevent me from getting a dog, but it has affected the atmosphere of this site beyond belief.

Wi-Fighter >>> Although we do not see eye to eye on many things, I find this type of behavior deplorable.
I am very sorry that this is a true event that has happened and that it was caused by someone who perhaps only knows you from this site.

I am saddened on this. I truly, deeply feel for you and your children...and the doggie too.

{{{{ wi_fighter }}}}

I am very glad that admin is trying to do something about what has happened. I realize it can not be undone, but I would feel much better if the person who did this was banned from the site.

I am totally shocked at what has happened. I find it rather scary that someone would do this to anyone.

I am so unbelievably saddened by the actions of this person. It is a terrible invasion of privacy and it diminishes the trust of the rest of the members. Please know that i am sending you good thoughts.

I thought I was all cried out on this. Apparently I'm not.

Even if the person is caught and banned, with the way the site is currently set up, they can still read and point outsiders to our posts. On privacy and membership here

You know what, I'm ANGRY. Yes, angry. And if the culprit thinks that's why I didn't get the dog, because I would project my anger on to the dog, you fail to realize that had I been able to adopt the dog without a hitch, as was already planned three days prior to your input, I wouldn't be angry.

I'm really not surprised that this person would try to place the blame on me for posting the dog's contact info, not having a fence (even though it was already conveyed to me that a tie-out stake would be just fine) and that the reasoning for denying me the dog was not due to hurt feelings but something more. Remember, when you point a finger at one person, you're pointing four back at yourself.

Wi_fighter, I've been out of the loop for a few weeks preparing for a move. I don't know what happened, but it sounds horrible, I'm terribly sorry, and I'm willing to do whatever I can for you -- write letters, make phone calls, anything I can do from a distance. Just let me know.

Much love,
Candy

As usual I have had no clue to this happening. I am so sorry that someone can be so f'd up to be intiontionally hurtful to another member like this. I really would like to help you get a dog. It seems to me that there are thousands being euthanized and you should be able to get a great pet and protector. P.m. me if you would like any help with this. I may have a plot or two up my sleeve.

I wish there was something someone could do, but the damage has been done. This person sent the agency president here, and all of the agency workers along with her, and they all read what I wrote. Which I might add was nothing more than my frustration with how they handled things, which the president even admitted was wrong when she'd talked to me earlier in the week - WHICH I'D POSTED ABOUT prior to this spiteful action. All of the misunderstandings had been worked out and it was a matter of waiting for Sunday to roll around, and 23 hours before we were supposed to get her, someone pointed them here and tore it all apart. What happened to freedom of speech and being able to voice frustrations?

For all I know, they even hold me accountable for the comments of other posts in that thread, like I could somehow control other people's reactions.

Good point, wi.

Some sites make you join before you can read posts, or some only open certain forums to guests. Not many will let you view member's profiles.

We are kinda wide open here. On privacy and membership here

Hang in there.
