Hi folks,

When I was teaching, I sometimes used to start the lesson by asking "What is the best thing that has happened to you this week? The response was usually silence.

Then I asked, "OK, what is the worst thing that has happened?" The response was usually that everyone tried to talk at once, eager to share their unhappiness!

I don't know why, but most people find it hard to dredge up something good that has happened to them. Maybe it's just something that we Brits do, I don't know.

Anyway - - What is the best thing that has happened to you this week! Tell me yours and I'll tell you mine.

Good thoughts, M

Good point, and have you noticed that most stories people tell are about bad stuff that happened to them. Pain + Time = Interesting Story. Go figure.

The best thing that's going to happen this week will occur later tonight when I finish my finals for the semester. I've only got a few weeks break before summer term starts, but those few weeks look soooo sweet to me right now.

Best thing this week: A friend's guardian angel is stronger than my stupidity..... I got a big plastic snake thing called an Aquadam, (cheap water storage item). It's a giant double water weenie wrapped in aplastic sock. The location I chose for it turned out to be inappropraite. While trying to empty it's partia fill in order to move it, we pulled the empty strip (40 feet) back down downhill over the full part (about 300 gallons-2,400 pounds of water) so that the open end would be below the contained water.

Weeeelllll, my friend was on the downhill side of the water balloon as i was swinging the end down the hill. Just at the moment of gravitational shift, my friend decided to plop butt down on the bubble to see if the water would shift and so be forced in the out direction. Bad idea as that was the seond I yelled' 'MOVE!! Look out!!!!"

Much to my ABSOLUTE HORROR,, the damn thing started rolling, and absorbed my friend. !!!!!!!!!!!! As it took off down hill, I expected a body to be lying there, but NO, it had wrapped up and taken my friend with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Stared in disbelief as this giant blob of water balloon, with a 50 foot tail now wrapped around itsself, heading at breakneck speed down the hill with MY FRIEND IN IT. Mother of Godd.

I ran up over the little berm seperating us in time to see it hit a tree 70 feet down the hill. As I was ready to die, I noticed somethng white in a big patch of poison oak. My friend, laid out flat, face up, headed downhill, lying perfectly still, right there in the center big patch of flattened poison oak, about 15 feet from me. It had spit my friend out. Unharmed.

The ride had lasted one second. Think of it: " One one thousand."
Everything coulda been just ___________ there are no words to describe the feeling that I had just facilitated the death of a friend....... when I got to the body and was yelling. "Are yoy alright???" and eyes opened and laughter burst forth from the corpse, well, I was born again and started breathing.

The next day I hobbled back to look good at the path of destruction. Ladies and Gentlemen, we had a miracle on bunnyhill. There are so many ways it coulda had a bad ending, I won't begin to list them....... The one thing we agreed on though, if it had gone bad, it woulda made a heck of a CSI episode.

When it ain't yer time, it an't yer time, but when it is, baby yer gone.

So, my best thing this week is: I didn't kill my friend.

Well, I haven't had nearly as much adventure as some of you, unless you include struggling with insurance and med companies as an adventure The best thing?.

But the one good thing that's happened to me so far this week is I got my son's HS graduation invitation and a new picture! The best thing? I'm picking up his present this afternoon (had it engraved). I'm just so darn proud of the kid I could bust! The best thing?

I did well at my interview and feel good about it even though I didn't get the job. (good)

I am having to say no to people when they ask me to do things, and I am finding it really hard. (bad)

Hi folks,

That was such a nice bunch of replies. Hillbunny - what a story! Pat - I can just imagine your white picket fence, reminds me of Tom Sawyer (favourite book in school).

Me? We have our daughter coming to stay for a few days so that she can have a quiet place to rehearse her play, which is on in a theatre in Brighton at the end of this month. I just like to have her sleeping under our roof, it feels so good.

It's what any parent wants - a happy family together.

Good thoughts, M

myzen, something else happened this week. last night, a stockboy who will be going to UT, asked me for my Texas phone number....i think he's wanting that "family" feeling too. i gave him my daughter's cellphone number...i don't have a number there yet. it's good to have family home and it feels good to also create a little more space for another soul. thanks for this thread. it's awesome.

The best thing that happened to me yesterday was a beautiful poignant conversation with my daughter who has OCD and is allowing herself to explore her sexuality. The best thing today was last week when she went to therapy I was late picking her up as the toymaker had me involved in a long conversation. Today I promised I would be on time because I know that abandonment feeling. There I was when my beauty girl came out and she hugged me tight and thanked me and said lets get icecream! I treasure these moments with her because she fatigues so easily fighting her OCD demons and also I treasure her sharing something so beautiful with me yesterday. I am grateful fo this remarkable child. Who by the way needs to get her license so mommy is not the taxi. However, with her fatigue and thyroid issues I probably should still take her to therapy as she is so exhausted after. She is my amazing surprise.

The best thing that has happened to me this week is that my aunt came safely through an operation on her thyroid today.

Hmm...the best thing? Nothing much has happened. The only truly best thing that's happened is:

1. Stayed at my friend's house for the weekend
2. Got to bond with some animals
3. Foodstamps came in...we can eat again!
4. My dad made a surprise visit to spend time with me

The first best thing that happened this week is my son bought a playmate for his pug. He bought a pug that was rescued from a puppy mill. They said she is a year old but she is sooo tiny and ohh soooo thin. Her little ribs stick out .. She looks so frail and is as delicate as porcelain.. The first night home she was so scared and timid. Her little legs are bowed from living all her life is a small cage. Well, (smilen) three days later, she has adjusted quite well. She jumps on the sofa, chases the beast (my son's black pug), chows down treats and picked out a lil stuffed bunny she carries around. Guinness, our beast even likes her, as he sleeps right next to her.

She is sooooooo cute and soooooooooo sweet.. She is a snuggler for sure and she lovessssss sleepen in my son's bed.... lol... I came very close to venturing out the fenced yard to take the lil lady for a walk and to play in the grass. This would be the first time in over a year I thought about venturing beyond the fenced in area. Maybe soon we will take a stroll around the neighborhood. Sad thing tho, my son took her to the vet and she has to see an eye specialist. Vet says she may lose one or both eyes.. The best thing? Soooo we will know next Tuesday what can be done for her eyes....

The second best thing is I discovered Ebay.. woohoo..... Found a huge lot of fabric paint and glitter real cheap.. Even bought l6 transfer pattern books for $13.00.. Hope I remember how to paint, as I haven't touched a paint brush in over l0 years... When I get some paint brushes, I might be painting anything and everything that doesn't move...... . The best thing?

Hi radio,

I agree, looking after a fragile little animal certainly takes us out of ourselves! Good vibes.

Cheers, M

PS - I've just discovered ebay as well. It's addictive!

I cut some flowers from the garden and made a lovely bouquet for my dining room table. It makes me smile every time I walk by.

So I guess the best thing that's happened to me this week is Spring!
