When viewing some videos on OCD at YouTube, I noticed some comments directing readers to check out a video that plays part of Michael Savage's radio show, where he says OCD and ADD aren't real. Some of you may already know about this, because it apparently aired a few months ago, but for those who don't, I wanted to share it.

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre><center><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C29OuQ9dmiU"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C29OuQ9dmiU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object></center></pre><hr />

This man doesn't have a psychology degree. He apparently hasn't met anyone with OCD. I can write off this opinion of his as idiocy. My boyfriend, who listens to Savage's radio show, and agrees with some things, disagrees with others (of what I've heard, I can say the same for me, but I'm not a fan), asked me, "And where did you hear this?" (or something similar) when I told him Savage said OCD wasn't real. Then he told me that, if he hadn't met me and seen it for himself, he wouldn't believe OCD existed, either.

I wonder about his listeners. I'm sure some have written him to tell him he's wrong (as well as some who don't listen to his show). But what about those who agree with him? What if they end up with children who have OCD or ADD? What if their parents keep trying to force them to be normal, or deem them "weak" if they aren't able to resist their fears and compulsions?

oh my god that is DISGUSTING. that pisses me of SO much!!! i wish all the ocd people who speak english could go see this man and... i dont know. that is unbelievable. he reminds me of...i dont know, a racist, insisting that people who arent white are not human. this is absolutely insane. unbelievable. No Such Thing as OCD and ADD? No Such Thing as OCD and ADD? No Such Thing as OCD and ADD? It's shocking.

ok then michael savage: washing your hands til you bleed but not stopping is NORMAL? taking 5 hours to clean your already spotless room is NORMAL? being isolated in your house bcs youre terrified everythings contaminated is NORMAL? taking 3 hours on an easy homework assignment is NORMAL? being unable to walk through a doorway without a complicated set of rituals is NORMAL? saying something over and over and over and over for no apparent reason is NORMAL? i dont know, sounds like ****in ocd to me.

My bf had him on the radio last night in the car (which is where I usually hear him). He also told a woman her bipolar wasn't real. He said bad doctors put her on pills when she was young and gave her this label, and it's messed up her life ever since. He asked if she was on meds now, and she answered, "Absolutely not!" I'm not saying that's good or bad; I have my own issues with the meds. But I have a really hard time with him saying bipolar, ocd and other mental illnesses aren't real.

He said this woman just "had emotions" and people told her it was a bad thing. Sheesh!
