I need pros and cons laid out for me on this one. Right now I'm blinded by possibilities and I'm only looking at the one I want to occur. help me make a decision!

I just got email from a newsroom buddy that the chick who took my job is leaving!

I only left the job because I became critically ill. Had my health held out, I'd still be there and it wouldn't be an issue. And, The Powers That Be told me repeatedly that they'd hire me back in a heartbeat.

In the meantime, I recovered and moved to my sister's. It's been nice having food and shelter without worries, but I'm having trouble finding a job here -- I'm either over- or underqualified for everything.

Taking my old job would get me home in a hurry. My landlord said they would happily welcome me back, so although I might not get my same apartment, I at least have a friendly place to live. I had a hard time getting by on what I was getting paid at that job, but as we all know, it's easier to get a new job when you already have one in hand -- I don't think it would be a problem to find something part-time there to supplement my income.

Part of the point of moving here was to save money so I could return home with some cash in hand and take my time finding a job. But if I can land one before I even leave here --- worth it???

I should say that, although it exhausted me, I adored this job and would have been quite content there for another 5 or 6 years.

Worth bringing up to the bosses? Not worth it? Why or why not? Like I said, all I can see right now is "I MIGHT GET TO GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Isn't happiness what it's all about? I'd be happy living in a tent in the mountains if I could. help me make a decision! I don't have that choice.

Ok what's the worse that can happen if you take the job? Maybe eat some crow, and listen to your sister etc? But aren't you already doing that in her eyes? And doesn't she already rag you?

I say go for it... think things through, get things in writing...you know all that stuff... help me make a decision!

Pro's: going home, going back to the job you love, feeling needed at the job, having your own place again. there's probably more I'm not aware of.

Con's: returning to the old worries, it might exaust you again, returning home without as much money as you planned

These are taken straight from your post. I can only speak for me, but I would feel great returning to a job I had left, it would help me feel needed. I love having my own space so that would be great. I would worry about having the health issues return if I went back to a stressful exausting situation too quickly. Only you can decide...but I'm glad you have the opportunity to go back, might be a good thing that the other lady is leaving! Maybe start a poll?

Knowing what a hard time you were having with money worries me, Hon. Could you ask for a raise?

If your "second job" was freelancing... well... maybe.

help me make a decision!

I agree with the raise thing, and second job, only if you can do it from home. You need to care for self. Freelancing would be perfect. Here is another I wonder. I have been thinking about what do we really NEED to live? Me, I could live in one room with a bath and fridge/cooking easiily and have less junk to deal with. Maybe a very cheap efficiency? Live simply. Good luck.

Candybear -

Try for your old job!!! If you're meant to get it, everything will fall into place.

There is nothing like writing for the newspaper, speaking from experience of course.

Hugs,

EJ

Candybear,

That job may not be there anymore, but is there another position that might be open? You could always talk to your old job & see what is going on & if there is anything there for you. I know having your own place again has to be a great independent feeling. As long as you are well enough to take care of yourself, you may be able to find something else around there also.

I know it is more comfortable going back to a job that you already know, but then, a new challange may be just the thing now that you are well & have some more energy to give to a new job. I am sure something good will work out now that you are well.

I may be good to look for something while you have a place to live that isn't costing an arm & a leg......from there, maybe you can move on to your independence again. Just be open & start a search....& even talking to your old job to let them know you would like to go back to them......they may call you when they get another opening

You never know what is ahead in life,
Debbie

I just got a note from the editor in chief saying they aren't filling any vacancies right now because they're "reviewing their operations." help me make a decision! They got taken over by the local daily, aka the 800-lb. gorilla, and the gorilla has been spring cleaning. I had heard that people were getting canned left and right, but didn't know it was going to spread to the newsroom.

help me make a decision!

Candy,

How about sending your resume to the 800-lb. gorilla?

Somehow I think this is all positive somehow.
