Currently I can't afford therapy, but know I need it, I have some serious issues that I need to address but don't really know what to do about them, I know that if I had someone to help sort things, I don't have any friends to talk to, so any suggestions?

Maybe there are support groups in your area? Also, there might be places that offer free counselling.
If you can afford to pay something, some therapists do sliding-scale, where those who can't afford to pay, say, $120 can pay half that much, for instance. |

There are agencies in communities that do low fee work. If you are seriously suicidal, then it seems that a small fee is certainly worth it and perhaps there is something you can do do cover that expense? Selling something, or working a little bit extra, or getting someone to advance you a little bit of cash for a while?
Mental health run by counties and such might also be an option. If broke and unemployed, then maybe applying for disability benefits? Then you can get help and insurance. While there is no real replacement for actual therapy, support groups and other kinds of peer counseling may also be around. Most communities have something like this. If you are truly without any resources, you can call a hotline for support. And start self-help by reading books and maybe keeping a journal to sort through things. |

Hello,
I can relate because I can barely afford my meds let alone therapy. My only advice is that I was sent to a sliding scale T and she only charged $50. Problem was she was a bit of a quack. Be careful because sometimes you get what you pay for ![]() TnT

Sorry to hear of stories of no access to therapy or bad therapy. As someone who has benefitted so much, I know I am lucky, but I truly think that it is possible to put some things together that could be helpful. For instance, lots of places take students working on their hours for licensing who are not as experienced as other perhaps but they do have two things going for them: they are are doing it for free and they are fresh.
What we really need is reforms in health care so therapy is paid for automatically. I do believe that someday that might happen. Until then it's a shame that therapy seems reserved as a luxury item when it is as necessary as physical therapy or other kinds of health care treatment. |
