Does any one know what can be given to a DOG (50 lbs) that has a slightly raised temperature? - not eating to well either.
Going to the vet tomorrow if she does not improve by later tonight...

Thanks....

have you tried tylenol? I would call the vet first but if the dog is not eating well I would take them in right away.

Well, she is eating off an on if I hand feed her.... but she has gone through this type of thing before in the past.... in the last two years.
Does anyone know what a dogs normal temp is supposed to be?

............................ So, is Tylenol safe to give to dogs? - I know Benadryl is for allergies.

Awww, poor poochie. I'm sorry she's not feeling well. We've gone through that with our dog, too, especially when she was younger.

Actually right at this moment, my dog is trembling, but I think it's because the smoke alarm is chirping about once per minute and has been for the last 45 minutes or so. I can't seem to make is stop, and I think it means the battery is dead. But I know my husband has "fixed it" before, so I don't want to deactivate it if it's not dead yet. But I think it's scaring the poor girl.

Either that or she's sick, too.

I hope yours bounces right back, Rap. And wow, brave woman for considering taking her temp! Dogs & Fevers

Don't give your dog Tylenol or any other drug without speaking to a vet first. Here's a letter to a vet that might help, though:
Acetaminophen (Tylenol™) safety in dogs and cats

Maven is correct, tylenof is a "no,no" for dogs.
Dear people never, ever, medicate your pets like humans.
The only thing OTC that we use, that my vets ever said were okay for pain, is low dose enteric/buffered aspirin, and that was only after my vet saw her.
Always ask the vet first.

Yeah I agree that we cannot medicate our animals like we do humans without the VETS say so..... that's how I know that Benadryl is safe for doggies, for one of my 4 dogs have a itchy skin problem and the vet said to give him Benadryl if I needed - for skin disorder and allergies to fleas.

I was just asking what others might have given their dog for a fever in the past, for I have never had to deal with that part of having a sick doggie..... BTW - she finally ate a full bowl of dog food last night (after 4 days of picky eating).

Found on the website that MAVEN posted on here....

Aspirin, Advil or Tylenol?

A: Advil and all ibuprofen products are very likely to cause ulcers in dogs. This can happen in as few as 1 or 2 doses with these medications. Tylenol and other acetominophen products are sometimes implicated in liver damage in dogs, although this appears to be a rare problem. Aspirin is usually safe to use but does cause stomach upset in some dogs and can cause ulcers. It would be best to call your vet and get a dose for your dog and possibly to consider having the swelling checked out as well. Aspirin is not recommended in injuries in which the swelling may be due to hemorrhage as it can promote bleeding. Despite their "over the counter" nature in humans, it really is best to consult with your own vet, who knows your dogs, prior to using these medications.

Good news, maybe it's the summer weather, hope she feels better soon.
Asprin, enteric coated or buffered only, dosed according to lbs/kgs of the dog is okay, and as directed from the vet.
Years ago, my one dog had an allergic to a checmical in one of the ear cleaners my vet used, we found out that particular one she can't have in her ear, but after that her ear swolled and was very red, he instructed me to use 325 Buffered aspirin, and NOT the regular kind, which can cause upset to stomach, long term ulcers.
We came across a good ear cleanser which agrees with her, even smells nice too. Dogs & Fevers
Both my dogs have short fur and long ears, long eared dogs due to lack or minimal air getting inside tend to get build up and odor. Hounds, like Basset can even develop yeast infections in the ear.
Oops! I got off topic. Dogs & Fevers Needed to share this info from my experience, in fact my weims are due for cleaning, I do this at home, kind of ycuky but my one dog actually likes it, the young one hasn't learned yet. ha!ha!
Benadryl is good to give (according to weight of dog)for wasp, and other "nasties" (insect bites) helps reduce the pain and swelling due to reaction from the sting.
Take care now, and know that our dogs wil always love us. Dogs & Fevers

Zulu is doing much better today.... her eating still a little off, but improving.
One of my other dogs is getting sick too, so with how the past has been, I do believe we got a stomach bug here (and) believe it or not I am getting a stomach bug sickness too.... I usually get sick when my dogs are not eating or throwing up, so animal to human viruses can occur if you ask me.... IMO.

Thanks for asking Bebop....

TeeHee - - maybe....
But I think I was sick on or about the same day my doggie started feeling bad, so the sickness came before the sympathy was needed.... it just took me a few days longer than my dog before I lost my appetite.
