It happened when I read the headlines. A poll worker voted six times in the last presidential election, so someone cheated to elect the "president". A breast-milk bank opened somewhere. I'm in my 50's. I grew up during a time when such things were private and I still believe they should be kept low-key. The final headline was about police using paper targets of pregnant women and children, both armed.

I reached a limit today while drinking my coffee in the land of the "free" and the home of the "brave". I also reached a realization.

I've gotten old and there's no going back. The world I knew is dead and buried. Honesty and privacy are archaic concepts that no one understands anymore because their true meanings have been completely warped by rampant tech and blatant dishonesty.

My feeling is akin to being adrift on a foreign sea with no chance of rescue or abandoned on an alien world.

I'm lost in my own home, the last place in the world where I felt safe.

A lot more people understand then you think. The world has become very "ignorant" and "angry" as well as "entitled" somehow. It is disturbing to see how bad things have gotten, yes I hear you.

awww (((HUGS))) I hear ya. Yes, "our" world is gone. I truly wonder if this is the feeling my parents had about my world??? I can't believe it to be so, but maybe they felt the same way.

I can't "do" the news. From time to time an "alert" intrudes into my world and I do hear something...and sometimes follow up on it... but all in all what I hear others discussing in the elevator and even on Christian websites or tv is too much for me.

I'm depressed right now so I can easily say that I am not worried about the world today, because I know I will be dead and gone and those who have ruined it will be left to suffer in it.

(((PP))) I try to stay away from the news for that very reason. Sometimes I swear that this is not reality, but some ridiculous flash from some futuristic syfi movie where this could not possibly happened because we as a species have more common sense than that. I'm not trying to bury my head in the sand, but I learned during the aftermath of 911 that what is being reported isn't necessarily accurate. Remember when the news was a report of what is going on and that an anchorman made sure his sources were accurate, because his reputation meant something?

I do know that part of the... problem...issue is me. My views have changed as I've gotten older. My husband was telling me last night that they're doing spot checks for drugs. He said he was sure his car was safe as he works in a neighboring community and had already been searched. He warned that I may need to leave a few minutes early for work Saturday as rumour is that they'll be here this weekend. This is illegal in this state. You need something called probable cause to search my vehicle. My father was a police officer. In my 20s my attitude was "I don't have anything to hide, search away."

Now that I'm older, I flat out state, you had better have probable cause before ripping my vehicle apart. My son is the sixth or seventh generation to serve in the military on my side and fifth on his fathers. I take my fourth ammendment rights seriously. People I know and loved have sacrificed to protect the Constitution. Who do you think you are to spit on it?

((PP)), Unfortunately the news tends to focus on all the "ugly" things that are going on in the world, but there are also "good and positive" things out there that are going on as well.

My cousin actually made an esophogus for a child that was born with one that was not really there, that was the first time anyone ever did that and "saved a life", didn't hear that on any news, but things like that go on all the time.

There "are" some amazing things going on in the world too, however the media and the research groups that scan everything going on for a possible news story that can be sold to some kind of media outlet tends to look for the kind of scum that has always existed in mankind. The media tends to put spins on things too in order to get "viewers" and a regular following. The bottom line is often "money and greed", and that has always been there.

i am young but i understand.
maybe not to your degree because i havent lived long.
im in my early 20s and my first real realization with this came when i came across seeing what teens and kids do and what they learn in school. some things id stop and say for example "gosh...i didnt even use anything like an ipad in school like they do now". examing stuff like that was my first realization that im getting older and yea theres no going back.

also realizing society cares less about you as you get older.
seeing as kids are protected and so much is done for them.
i have a lot of grudges held in because while im older i never even got kind treatment as a kid. most of my mental health was ignored. so im very hurt.

so i have the same feeling
and then as i get older more things are put on me...obviously and naturally yea.

...i cant handle it...

i see the flaws in government and the idiocy of young people so clearly. adults too.
i see the news for what it actually is now. money maker. ratings generator. to bring big bucks to the owners like rupert murdoch who owns fox news.

I avoid local tv news like the plague. I can't stand hearing about the horrible people who live in my community and the terrible things that they do to other people. I also don't like hearing about all of the deaths due to car crashes, alcohol abuse, house fires, and all sorts of other tragedies.

I remember years ago throwing my shoes at Lou Dobbes on CNN.
I just couldn't take his socialist agenda. I would get so mad. Almost in tears.
These days I don't watch the news that much. Everything they say is a lie.If there was anything I would like to say to the news people is,
wipe that stupid grin off your face. It was real people that died, so why are you smiling?

I suppose that a lot of bad changes have occurred, but I still feel that I am exceptionally fortunate to live in this era. Medicine is more advanced than it has ever been. Women can have careers and influence how the world is run. Our society is remarkably tolerant of differences in race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. People are starting to recognize that war is wrong and should be avoided at all costs.

I'm taking a Roman history course this semester, and I am so glad that I wasn't born into that society! Women had no rights, wars were waged for no reason, one third of Roman people were enslaved...

Life now isn't perfect, but I think that this is the best it's ever been.

I am grateful for many things. I changed my mood indicator about 30 minutes ago.

I had a bit of a bad patch this morning and transitioned into a new mode of sorts, an acceptance of my position in this world, so to speak.

One of the things I'm grateful for is that members here listened and offered feedback. It is very much appreciated.

the problem is the media doesen't report what good happend today and good things do happen. so its a vicious cycle that breeds negative energy. I wonder what the world would be like if those reporters decided to start reporting more good news than the bad news.....im willing to bet it would breed a cycle of positive energy

"I've gotten old and there's no going back."

That was simply and beautifully written. Your gave me some perspective on life. I'm in my early twenties and I often feel that conservative people are "mean" because they could care less about my values, but I guess we're all here in a changing world; we have more in common than we think. It gets easy to feel alienated, but remember that the news isn't an arcuate assessment of what the world is really like. There are lots of people on this planet.

This is such right on statement . Words and thoughts are powerful . Makes me consider many things are "programed " to create manipulation of the energy put out there.

I just want to say, I agree. I don't know if there's more bad stuff, or if it's just because we have more ways to hear about it, but here's what I think is most likely: There used to be a lot of bad stuff, but we only heard about some of it. Then we got our online and computerized world and you got to hear much more. And in hearing much more, those inclined to commit certain acts got ideas in their heads and they also organized, and so they commit even more of those horrible acts.

Yes, our 50 some generation was looked at in a manner of criticism as we of today may see this generation. The idea of the kids of toay being the "generation of entitlement" is the fault of the previous generation giving in to the commercialism . I wouldn't dared to have said to my parents " But their parents let them do/get it ". No way would that fly with them. Get a job if you want something . Raking the leaves meant you rake the leaves , not give you a quarter to rake the leaves. There was a way we learned that doing something for someone else was showing respect. Respect has been lost , there is no respect for the elders, the earth, & no respect for each other. What is put before us is the monetary value of everything , prestige and convenience ( the easy way out). I won't knock convenience to much, using a washboard is not what I want to see in my future, but I have hung clothes on a line to dry. Action with being aware of consequence to future generations is not always possible , but there is knowledge being withheld of consequences known by governments and companies . Mainstream media is (my point of view) a money maker and means of taking your concerns to a designated place. Just a question , did many of you know that the FDA has made an attack on small farms selling raw (unpasteurized ) milk ? Isn't this a choice of what we consume being overzealous when swat type tactics are being used to raid farmer co-ops and dumping milk or pouring dyes in the supplies .
There is the world that needs to change and the world we need to protect from change.
Rant over .

The good old days had lynchings; child abuse was approved behavior in many instances (I should know). The list could go on. So some things are worse and some things are better.
