I didn't know where else to put this, so bear with me. I'm not depressed or anxious or anything, just exhausted, mostly, and uncertain. Maybe I should make this a poll: I started a great job Monday that I fit right into. My editor adores me. It'll afford me the opportunity to get the heck out of my sister's house. But.

When I got home tonight, there was a message from the executive editor of another paper, that I interviewed at despite having accepted this job offer. It's back in my home state. It's a daily paper, not a weekly, which would be an enormous step up. The money is probably a good bit better.

The guy gets in at 6 (that's a.m. -- one more reason not to be an editor on an afternoon daily ;-) and asked me to call him then. I'm exhausted and stressed out and I truly have no idea what I'm going to say if he offers me the job. That's where YOU come in. so now what? Give me pros and cons or just flat out tell me what the heck to do, and I'll check in tomorrow morning! LOL I haven't a clue.

You want to be on a daily, if I recall...I say take it if you have the chance. If you don't you'll regret it FTROL.

Go for it...

DJ so now what?

First things first....Make this a fact finding mission. Ask the editor what he has to offer you in the way of hours of work, benefits, moving assistance (yes you can ask for that if they want you bad enough) personal time, sick leave, bonuses, etc etc etc. Then make a list of pros and cons for each job. Be honest about them, then compare them. What does your gut tell you to do? Tell the editor you need a bit of time to consider his offer because you want to make the right choice for you and the newspapers. He should appreciate that so now what? Good luck with your decision making!

I got the job. so now what? I have no idea what to do.

They're offering 50 cents more an hour than I'm making now, which is not a lot. The health insurance kicks in sooner, which is vital to me, as I have a physical illness that requires fairly constant monitoring. (And we all know how much psych meds cost!) They really, really want me. I asked for a day to think about it.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great problem to have! I just need to figure out if I like the job I have because it's comfortable. This would be a big stretch professionally. And the cost of living in that area is incredibly cheap.

I'm so confused!

Which one would make you happier Candy?

I know I usually do my head in trying to weigh the pros and cons so now what? So my advice is that it might be best to trust what you feel... and to go for it!

Good luck with it all.

make a list of pros and cons

if you don't have obligations to family, children, or a significant other . . . then FOLLOW YOUR HEART AND DREAMS and don't be afraid to take risks.

I don't know how I am going to stand living in such a tiny town, a minimum of an hour and a half from a major metropolitan area .... but I took the job. I asked for a start date of Nov. 1 and am waiting to hear back. The money isn't appreciably better, but it's enough to start. And the cost of living there is just obscenely cheap. I can get at least a 2-bedroom apt. with all kinds of goodies included for what I paid in Milwaukee for a very basic place without utilities included.

Sigh. Why am I scared and sad instead of happy? Somebody tell me I did the right thing! It's the best thing for me professionally. I just keep telling myself that.

change is sooooo hard on so many layers, huh? you've made the choice, give it your best shot. time will fill in the blanks.

small town, bigger digs, roomy. more space. room to grow on so many levels in your life personally and professionally. go ahead and breath while you pack up and plan ahead.

sounds exciting. !!!.

For me, living in a small town so close to a big city is the smart thing to do...easy and safe living, and grab a bud or two, and head for the city! We used to drive more than two hours to Atlanta just to get a pizza (REALLY good pizza) or go to a concert, whatever. Piece of cake!

I think you'll do just fine...save up some cash, get some experience on a daily...in a couple of years you can start looking for a big paper job, maybe.

Good luck!

You just might suprise yourself on how much you like it..you never know! Good luck on your new job and enjoy yourself!!!! so now what?

Don't know if Im on track here or not so if not just pass on this but here goes.

Every once and a while you end up conflicted as to moving back to the other place or staying where you are. I can understand why you want to go back there and maybe have a need to.

If this was me I would look at the situation that got me where I was at the present and figure out if I moved back to where I used to be could the situation that caused me to be where I am now happen again.

You moved to where your sister is because you were having a hard time taking care of yourself and not having a job due to you lost your job because you became so ill you were in the hospital at deaths door from an illness that you still have now.

You just got a job where you are and now a job where you used to live had opened up for you. Well if you moved back away from your sister and where you are now can that illness that you have strike back up into full speed ahead and cause you to be in the hospital at deaths door again resulting in your losing that job and once again having to move to your sisters?

If not then I say go because you keep struggling with the situation as to move back there or not so you have some issues back there that needs to be worked out.

BUT if the answer is yes you have not been cured of this desease that put you at deaths door and it can do so again to the point where you may lose that job and have to once again move to where your sister is for help then I say stay put.

you have a job now and if you end up in the hospital you may lose it but you won't have to move because you are already in close proximity to the person that can help you - your sister.

Take care.

Off course you will be scared!!!! Everyone is scared of the unknown... so much can happen and so much will change, and somehow we always seem to think it will be negative. Maybe you will make great friends there etc. I also live an hour and a halfs drive form the city and I love it. Whenever we need something we can't find it's a whole fun outing to go to the city to get it... I think you did the right thing, I really do!

I would love to start my life over in a new town!

Myself, my blood counts have been normal since late February and I'm considered "in remission." They told me not to walk around for the rest of my life, worried that the aplastic anemia will return, for 2 reasons: one, it may NOT return, you never know, and two, now that they have a handle on what happened, they're monitoring me for its return on a fairly regular basis, and will catch it, if it returns, at the beginning instead of near the very extreme end. Mild to moderate cases can be handled easily on an outpatient basis, with drugs.

You made a great point, though, and thank you for having paid enough attention to me to know enough to make the point. so now what?

Love, Candy

you're welcome. so now what? I wasnt sure if my making the point was going to be stepping where I didn't belong so thats why I kind of warned aheald of time that I may be off base. Glad you caught the point and thought the way I did it was right on. me pay attention? of course I pay attention to you (and of course every one else here). I may not always post to everyone all the time but I always find that in each persons post there is always something in there that helps me. That in itself makes each person here including you to be unforgetable. so now what?

and I am glad they are monitoring you so you don't have to walk around worrying. hang in there.
