I'm FED UP with men who molest children. Seriously fed up. When will the people in this country say, "ENOUGH!!!" Why aren't more people talking about this ? especially about incest. Why don't we see ads on TV raising money to prevent it? Are people so naive to think that all the sexual predators out there are on Dateline, attempting to molest strangers?

WE know the truth. Most of the abused people here and in the general public were abused at home....it's fathers, uncles, brothers, step-dads, etc. who we most need to look out for. We tell our kids, "don't talk to strangers, be careful online", etc....but what about - "what was unce charlie talking to you about?"

Grrrr....

This Foley guy says he went after those young pages because HE was molested as a child. Grrrrr....

And the shooter at the Amish school said he molested children, and was prepared to molest the girls he killed. Grrrrr....

What will it take to wake people up?? I want billboards, and TV ads, Tshirts, and a frigging telethon!!

you know, reading this post, i sat here and instinctively started to tighten my belt. i get defensive about this, and i feel strongly in favour of what you say. i was abused as a 10 year old by my 16 year old brother. so i know first hand how destroying it can be. and i know that when i am older, i will launch campaigns about this, to make people aware of what goes on behind closed doors. im one of the lucky ones that wont allow it happen to me, and by that i mean i wont go and inflict it on anyone.

it is wrong, and its sick to think the government dont do anything to raise awareness. its the same here in the UK. i believe i am strong enough (as are you and eevryone here) to be able to give these victims a voice. it does need to be done. and i for one plan on doing this in the future, definately.

it seems every week, or every day, there is a story about a child being abused (in any manner) by a family member. and yet no government campaign exists, i think they (the government) think that by ignoring it, it might just go away and stop. but it wont.

a comedienne on television said last night that he was giving alcohol a "bad name" by saying he's an alcoholic and that caused his deviant behavior. she was joking, of course, but got her point across. she was furious with him. she made that very clear.

I understand that the sex drive is strong, but I don't understand how these people seem to let it rule their lives. Why do they take such great risks of destroying the victim's life, their family's lives & their own for some sexual satisfaction? These guys that molest youg children, then murder them. I don't understand it. So many of them look "normal" to their neightbors. How can they entertain such thoughts? How can they do such horrific things for sex? Yes indeed it is sad...... and yet we have to stop hiding behind some of the facts and look it straight in the face and say just LOOK around us - at this sexually saturated society we live in, with its magazines, movies, films, clothing, acceptance of porn and our way to lenient criminal system.
What are all of these things saying to the developing mind of our youths - to me it is saying that this is what the world accepts and deems is right for people to interact with and with in - it is Turing our youths into ADULT SEXUAL PREDITORS (and) SEXUAL PERVERTS for PLEASURE and mere SELF GRATIFICATION.

....Women (females) are no longer being looked upon as a person any more in the eyes of mankind, but rather they are being seen and thought of as an object of desire..... to be used for the lust and pleasure of MAN.

YES..... I agree, it is not just MEN that sexual abuse, but that WOMEN can and will abuse too.

In the long run though we all have to agree and know that MEN are the majority and not the minority as women are when it comes to taking sex for their own pleasure and/ or for their drug of choice to satisfy a very sick disturbed mind.

I agree that our society is "promoting" aberrant sexual behaviors through pornography & the satuation of our society with sexual messages. Some people think porn has no impact on the mind, but I can't help but think if you are looking at child porn, for example, it loosens your inhibitions after awhile & increases your desires for that form of sexuality. It seems most pedophiles are into child porn.

If it has no effect on a person & his/her thoughts & desires, why do advertisers spend so much time trying to put images & desires for their products into our minds through pictures & tv ads?

I agree women are treated as objects in a lot of the ads & porn. Abercrombie & Fitch is trying to do that with men by having them posing in provocative ways. The whole society is putting too much emphasis on the physical aspects of sex, not the emotional components, such as an expression of love & commitment. I don't know how much I have to say on this topic other than I agree... the world is quite a mess.

I live in Lancaster County, PA and work not far from where all of this happened on Monday. Except that on Monday I wasn't at work - I was at the hospital where some of the victims initially were brought in, because my sister-in-law was having scheduled surgery that day. I'd been there since 6am, and when all this started happening late morning, it was so surreal.

It's always bad to hear about stuff like this, but you never think it's going to happen near you - and to the Amish, at that. My office is surrounded by Amish farms, and I just feel so awful about what's happened to their peaceful community..

Well, I agree that this is a huge mess. I think education is the key here. As well as making treatment more available to offenders. Thing is, it's an illegal act, and not many are going to come forward to get help preventative or otherwise, because afterall, it is a crime.

I am not sure what the key answer to this all is, but I know there are groups out there trying to make headway with this. Understanding what drives a pedophile...Typically, pedophiles have trouble relating to people their own age. They need to feel they have power and control in a relationship, which is easy with children. Educating our children is key part. It is true most abusers are someone that child knows. It's important that children know about inappropriate behavior by anyone, and that they are not to keep "secrets" as such.

There is no cure for pedophilia, there are treatments to control it.

One of the best ways indivuiduals can do something is by speaking out, lobbying your state senate, represenatives, congress, selectmen, etc.. to make a change. Change comes in small steps sometimes...

This is what is wrong with society. Who are the "real" terrorists? The War on Terrorism SHOULD start at home, against the family members who terrorize their children for years and years and then get away these violating crimes. Child abuse is the ultimate shame. The "real" terrorists outnumber the other political/religous terrorists exponentially. Society projects our problems onto a more short-term, yielding profits through war. If we really cared about the World, we would transfer our efforts to long-term solutions of protecting our children!
