I'm going through a really rough time with my son. He's got asperger and he's very hard to handle. He acts out a lot! Hitting, screaming... Very anxious!
As if this wasn't enough... I'm having asperger too. I got my dx in June this year and I've hardly had the time to search in myself when it comes to this. I'm learning about myself and my asperger little by little... but all my energy goes to taking care of my son and my daughter. The knowledge I get about my own symptoms, never get a chance to sink in. My inside is screaming and crying! To suddenly at the age of 32, finding out why you've always felt different than others and never really felt a part of "life"... that's TOUGH. I feel so alone in this! I would like to talk to others dealing with having asperger. So please, if you've got asperger and want to talk... talk to me!

My OCD's getting worse too, now when the rest of my life is in a mess. I've developed new compulsions and I'm having a very hard fighting them right now.

Otherwise.. everything is just fine! ;-)

Asperger's disorder... any members here having it??? I need to talk... vent... Asperger's disorder... any members here having it??? I need to talk... vent... I have no experience with Asperger hon, but I feel so for you and the obvious frustration you are feeling. I can truly see that it is not easy for you, yet you somehow get through each day.

Have you thought about searching for an exclusive Asperger's forum? I have found this to help me.

Another thought - are you receiving any kind of therapy to help you come to grips with your dx?

My thoughts are with you.

Crying isn't a sign of weakness. It's a sign of having tried too hard to be strong for too long.

I have known several people with Asperger's. Some I worked with doing speech therapy, and some in residential treatment for behavioral problems (although the residential treatment center I was working at did not turn out to be a good setting). I strongly suspect that my father has always had a mild case of Asperger's. I think my brother-in-law has it too. My sister has a fascination with Asperger's (I could put you in touch with her if you like - she is a psychiatrist and this is one of her research topics). Let me know if you would like me to forward a message to her. She's not on this site, but I could give her your e-mail and she would write to you.

I honestly have a lot of respect for people with this disorder, and I believe that it does not have to limit you. I found a website on Autistic Spectrum disorders with a page by a young man who has Asperger's and is succeeding in life and has pride in who he is. http://www.thegraycenter.org/nickdubin.cfm I found his comments to be inspiring.

I don't think that I have Asperger's myself, but I believe that more people have mild Autistic spectrum symptoms than are recognized. I have some sensory integration symptoms myself, but few people even know what that is. Sensory Integration Disorder is also on the Autistic Spectrum. Autistim involves sensory integration symptoms, but people can also have those symptoms alone. There is more information about that on the Gray Center website too, and more can be found by searching the internet.

I have a lot of similarities, but it doesn't quite seem to fit me... eh, nothing does.

A support group may be helpful for you - maybe even a group for parents of Autism kids... if there's one around...

I have been to a 3 day seminar by this company called RDI. They teach and help all kinds of people with autism and asperger's. If you wish to check out their website it's http://www.rdiconnect.com

Dr. Gutstein has done amazing work with the autistic/asperger spectrum folks and their families. I was in awe of what he has been able to accomplish in this field.

Good luck to you!

Thanks all of you replying! I will take a look at the sites suggested. I'm a member in a couple of Asperger forums on the net. The thing is... it's tough getting to know more people and getting the time to. I feel more "at home" here... after being here for 1 year.

I do see a special educationist... but most of the time goes to talk about getting help with our son. I really don't feel good myself... but who am I in all this???

you are very important person you have to be able to guide your son through this, when you can understand what it is all about you can help your son understand what its all about, you are the most important person to this little boy and his sister and your husband,
we will offer our support as long as we can, while we have the net, if i cant do the net i can do snail mail,
you will get there remember you shall look back one day and maybe help other suffers or there families cope with the stuff you have copped with so again you are important
