Hi. I'm reading this to help with addiction and bipolar, but it can be used for chronic pain or just to enrich your life. So far it's very interesting and there are self guided meditation CDs and phone apps.

That's a really good book and I like the guided meditation CD's, Kabat-Zin has out.

Another really good book by him, I like it better really, is "Wherever you go, there you are." but it doesn't explain the program the way "Full Catastrophe Living" does.

I was lucky enough, a couple of years ago to get into a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy group that ran for 12 weeks. We had to do a minimum of 45 min. of meditation each day as homework. It was specifically to treat depression I found it super helpful. You might ask your pdoc, if there's a program running that you can get into. Mine was through my local hospital.

I just finished a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course, which is based on the work of Kabat-Zinn. I learned a lot and the people interacted in ways that were profoundly moving. People really did change. I am so glad I did it. If you have a chance to take one, I really highly recommend it. There is a book by a meditation teacher in my town called the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook (Bob Stahl) and it also has CDs. Good stuff.

Thanks for the feedback. @Split image did you work up to 40 min of meditation? I'll goggle for classes too. @Archipelago did you read the book by Stahl after Catastrophe? I'll check for it on Kindle.

thickntired - nope we didn't work up, we started out with 45 min, right from day one - by the end of the course we were doing 60. It was really hard at first, but it got easier. I highly recommend the program, it's one of the more helpful therapies that I've done.

I read the Stahl book for the course. I read Full Catastrophe in the 90s I think when I was having lots of pain and problems with multiple long knee surgeries.

I do Zen meditation anyway so this is a form that I know called Vipassana or Insight meditation. Stahl leads the Insight group here as well as doing the MBSR courses. He has a good website with videos about mindfulness if you are interested.
