My hubby has a friend at work who's wife( she is in her mid 30's) has just been diagnosed with inoperable cervical cancer. She is taking radiation 5 times a week and chemo once a week. She is unable to work at this time as she is so sick. they ahve no health insurance because to be honest the price is outragous! 177.00 a week for employee and family. She works for a daycare and they do not offer health insurance. they have two kids; a boy-9 and a girl 8. We did a candle fundraiser for them to help with what we can.
The good news is that her tumor is shrinking, slowly but it is going down.

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking to a couple of guys about an organization called The Goodfellows, that help families in need around Christmas time. I have searched the internet and I can not find anything to help me locate a local chapter. I have called the radio station repeatedly and have received no answer. I would really like to nominate this family to receive some help this Christmas. This has got to be a hard time for them and I just want the kids to have a good Christmas! Does anyone have any suggestions or any info on how to contact this organization or any other that can help this family out?

if so, i would love to hear from you! Thanks

I know nothing about this organization, but if you would like someone else to help them, try the Salvation Army. They will, at the very least, give them a turkey and trimings for Christmas.

How is cervical cancer "inoperable", BTW?? They can do a hysterectomy, no?? Would like some info if anyone knows about this, please.

it isnt directly on her cervix and she waited a long time to go to the doctor. it is too large and they cant get a good tissue margin around it. the tumor is to the side of her cervix so they are doing radiation on it..

I have cancer so I am in contact with cancer survivors, professionals and so on. I too have never heard of inoperable cervical cancer.

I have had many friends that have had cancer of the vigina, cervix, uterus, falopian tubes and ovaries and in some cases the tumors were as big as a persons fist (a cirvix isone inch in diameter and a fist is anywhere between 3- 8 inches in daimiter depending on how a person is measuring diameter. and removal has always been possible. to remove tumors in the cervix walls they remove the uterus including the cervix and and sometimes the faloopian tupe and ovaries. doing this is called partial hysterectomy and total hysterectomy. In some cases the vagina has been removed also and using skin graphs surgens create a new vagina just like they do with sex change operations of turning a man into a woman by giving the man a vaginal pocket. Behind the uterus and cervix and vaginal is a hollow space called the abdominal cavity. this cavity is what separates the rectum, bladder and reproductive organs from each other. if they were connected then when a woman was pregnant the bladder and rectum would be stretched upwards just like the uterus is as the baby develops in the uterus.

Ummm... I think what Mel wanted was suggestions on how to help this woman and her family, not a debate on her medical condition.

Hello I hope you are doing well. I donot know of the Goodfellows. I do know the Salvation Army may be able to help. I am also enclosing these numbers as well for medication. Free Medicine Foundation 1-573-996-3333( can make up to 80,000)
Free Medicine program 1-800-921-0072 ( 24 hours a day 7 days a week)
National Cancer Institute 1-800-422-6237
American Cancer Society 1-800-ACS-2345
I am sure there are probably other referrals for cancer treatment if you call the American Cancer Society they will let you know what is available, and refer you to others if necessary. Take care Soidhonia
