Not sure if this belongs in general so feel free to move if necessary. I got the letter today saying I was denied social security/disability. They recognize that I have MS but don't see why I can't work full time and return to drawing blood for a living. Hmmm.....no vision in my right eye causes me to miss buttons on PIN pad thingies, hands don't work right, get dizzy spells and constant exaustion BUT I can draw blood again.....K. I feel like calling them and asking them if they'd let me stick them. Anyway, I'm frustrated. I'll work full time and just deal with being miserably exausted since that's what I'm gonna have to do. But I needed to vent. DENIED DENIED DENIED DENIED

(((((((((((((((( Raynaadi )))))))))))))))

I'm so sorry this has happened. Don't give up. Almost everyone is turned down twice before they are given their disablity awards. I don't know why the system stinks like that, but it's true.

If you have any questions or just need to vent, pm me.

Hugs,

Jan

One word, Rayna... APPEAL! Go see your dr for every symptom of MS as often as you can and GET YOUR RECORDS!

Journal the least little mishap when you're working, days missed because of MS, etc. PLAY IT UP and make it sound worse than it really is. If you can, get evals or letters from your bosses. (EX: The judge took it seriously when my son said he didn't trust me to watch his baby anymore because he STARTED to fall off the bed while I was watching him. They couldn't expect me to babysit for a living then.)

Is this the first time you've applied? If so, that's why. They usually always deny you the first time.

Don't lose hope, Hon! You'll get there! DENIED

Don't give up! You need to hire a SS lawyer. I was denied twice and hired a lawyer and won on the third attempt. The lawyer will take his pay out of your back pay, so you don't have to put any money up.
It sounds like you have a very legimate reason for needing to quit working, so don't let them scare you. They always deny at first, hoping people will give up and not try again.
Good luck to you,
Linda

I expect to be denied the first time. So my long term disabilty will get a lawyer, and they will get any money that is backed up. so it is still I lose for winning. Sounds funny.

I became somewhat of an expert in getting people approved by supplying details about everything. On 12/2, got stuck on toilet due to spasm and could not move for 20 minutes, when able to get up had to lie in bed for 1 hour due to spastisity. At this time still had bowel movement remains to clean and headed back to bathroom for another .5 hour clean up due to shaking hands and dizziness. Okay, you all get my point right. Details of everything!!! Was feeling suicidal while driving to work and considered driving off the expressway..... Honesty with tons of narrative and put doc's contact dates or meds next to narratives.

Wow thank you everyone! I'm so glad to hear that almost everyone gets denied the first time. How long to the appeals usually take? It took about 4 months just to get the first decision. I will begin appealing Monday and start writing everything down.

WW- did you keep a journal type thing and turn that in with all the paperwork?

Good luck with that. I've always heard the same story about 2-3 denials before approval here in S. Florida, as well.

I would journal if you could or I would just sit down and remember the past month as well as you can and do a daily outline. You should remember calls to docs or visits and when you were feeling what. The days don't have to be exact except for Dr. visits and calls. Kinda the sum of the whole in as much detail as you can remember. Also from now on be very specific with your docs about how your conditions limit functioning. Pain levels etc. Good luck.

hang in there......they traditionally deny you two or three times. it's so they can spend MORE money on paperwork and such, instead of helping out the people who need it the most........ DENIED love, pat

I know of only 1 person who went sailing through on the first time, and without a lawyer. Also, it's true that the money you will collect is retroactive to when you first applied, so you will collect from the first application date, assuming they do eventually approve you. Good wishes!

It took me three years to get it but your back pay goes back to when you first filed. So, that helps. And, the lawyer only gets a percentage of that. I think at the time, my lawyer was allowed 25 percent of my back pay but it was well worth it!! So, keep trying!!

Good luck,
Linda
