Ever since I was little, my mom has tried to get me to go to church and for awhile I did. But whenever I step into a church or any place religious, I feel sufficated and I get hot flashes. I'm very uncomfortable and I feel like I need to leave immediately. A long time ago I stopped going to these places and have avoided them since. I always continued to pray every night though, until last year when I actually hit rock bottom in life. I became very upset with everything (including God) and stopped praying. I felt awful about this, so I decided to give praying another chance. And this is the honest truth, when I started to pray again, all sorts of bad things started happening, I don't know if it was coincidental or not, but it really confused me. I stopped praying again and things returned to normal. I tried this several times again and the same results would appear. It's been over a year since the last time I prayed or even mentioned God's name in my head and thoughts. I can't understand why it seems like God doesn't want anything to do with me. I have opened my heart to Him, but I don't think He has done the same.

Hon, Satan has you right were he wants you. He doesn't want to lose you. He is the one putting up the roadblocks between you and God, not God! The harder you try to get to know God, the harder Satan is going to try to keep you away from him.
If I was you, I'd seek some religious counceling. It doesn't have to be in a church if that makes you uncomfortable. Right off the top of my head, I would suggest a champlain with the Salvation Army.

I agree Sept::::
Plus God can put trials in your life to make you stronger and pull you closer to him .. Satan has had his nails latched onto you for years .. I suggest that you speak ( not in your head ) but speak against Satan :: SATAN IN THE NAME OF MY LORD ALMIGHTY JESUS CHRIST RELEASE YOURSELF FROM ME .. and Satan will return but as you grow stronger and believe then you will feel less of him and the Roadblocks .. But remeber there are trials and the Lord will not give you more than you can handle .. Tymber |

I pray & seek the Lord & Satan is always tryin to throw curveballs. I rebuke him & tell him to get behind me & i quote Scriptures from the Bible. ill say "it is written No weapon formed against me shall prosper , He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world." stuff like that. Satan cant stand against the Word of God. theres one that goes "Submit yourself to the Lord, resist the Devil & he will flee." and also the reason u feel so anxious when u go to church is because the Holy Spirit is speaking to u to give your heart & life to Jesus & ask Him into your heart & life as Lord & Savior. God so loved you & me & everyone He sent Jesus to die & bear all our sins on the Cross. Praise the Lord God forever!!! God rose him from the dead & He has victory over death hell & the grave. Just like if we're saved when we leave the earth we will go to Heaven to live with Him forever. when we become Christians everything isnt always good & peachy cuz thats just life & plus Satan wants you to serve him again. I hope u can find a counselor or Christian therapist & pdoc. I go to a Christian psychiatric place & they are so great cuz not only do they address your mental illness they also love the Lord. ill pray 4 u & lots of hugs!

I don't know what you consider "bad things" and whether they are actually bad. We can only learn from making "mistakes" and one of my favorite sayings is, "All sun makes a desert." If you are shy/want things to remain the same, God isn't insterested in that, He wants you to grow, which might be bad news to you :-)
Too, God doesn't just grant our wishes/prayers willy nilly. Prayer is communication with God not just "oh please make such-and-such be so" and then deciding God doesn't like you because you don't "get" what you pray for. There's a lot to learn from listening to His responses, whatever they are. I would pray specifically to Him about this matter and your feelings and see what He has to say.

yeah i forgot it is very true that God will test u to see your faith in Him. like Job in the Bible God gave Satan permission to mess with him but he never cursed God through all he went through. right now i myself am going through a trial & tribulation cuz my husband has gotten weak & is smoking crack. I just pray 4 him & i know it will all work out for Gods glory. its really hard cuz i just wanna give up but i cant cuz if i do i will be right back there also & Satan would just loovvvve that. i didnt go to church any this past week & man can i tell! Satan has used this as an opportunity to really tempt me! I guess u can tell when its a test from God because God does not tempt with evil--Satan does. God tests our faith in Him i guess through lifes ups & downs. I love the Lord & i want to draw closer to Him & i myself honestly think He will come back before we die of old age. im 32 & i look up at the sky every day. Praise the Lord God forever & ever!

I agree too... Matthew 16:23
".... Get behind me Satan! You are an offense to me, because you are not mindful of the things of God, but things of men."..... If you read Matthew chapter 4, it tells show satan tempted Jesus Himself and Jesus rebukes the devil.... this is what you must do.Also read Rev 3:20. I would recommend going to the website of Joyce Meyer. She is an amazing woman who loves God and she is a survivor so abuse too.You can be rget some guidance there via email if you prefer not to talk right now.JoyceMeyerMinistries.com I will be praying for you.... "Father, recieve this child... help her to open that door to You.. let her hear Your voice.. Lord, cast satan from her life, lift her up and give her strength. Father, hear this prayer... thank God for loving us.. and for answering prayers....You will be done Father....I give You honor and glory... I praise Your Holy Name! Amen Everything is going to be alright....not easy all the time.. but alright.. and we are here to help you... don't walk away from Him... HE does love you...I know He does! Faith

I find myself feeling a failure in Gods eyes all the time. I start thinking that there is nothing I can do right anyways so why try to please anyone. Especially God. Even though in my heart I do believe in him.. I dont feel like I will make it to heaven when I do die. So why try?? Its a constant fight within my heart. I want to be a good person. I want to do right by everyone. But its impossible. And I've done so much bad... that I dont think its reversible. I am a failure.. and I always will be one. Its the truth that faces me every day of my life.

IMO God doesn't test your faith until you are exercising it. Going to church is not really that which becomes tested. Satan fights that way, not God imo.
God doesn't give those ugly feelings. Satan does. IMO you need to find God personally... on a personal basis. Make it so He isn't "out there" but "in here" and then you will know if it's Satan or testing. John 3:16 Romans 10:9.10 1 John 1:9 can help you see if you've done this. ![]() God does not condemn us. WE condemn ourselves. God does not deny us as human beings. It is WE who deny His power in our lives. It is WE who deny Him as God, and thus block Him from helping us as a child of God... God wants us to have all good things, and that includes contentment. Just my POV ![]()

God doesn't expect us to do everything right. He causes things to show us how much we need him... He gave the 10 Commandments to show that there's no way anyone can even keep the 10 and certainly not the 600 other laws he gave the Hebrews!!! It was to show us our fraility.
Rest in the Lord. He wants us to do that ![]()

Beth, I used to feel that way alot, too. Someone told me that we tend to see God with the same eyes we see our earthly fathers, or those in authority over us. It held true for me.
I used to think that Jesus was aloof when He was on earth and went around with His nose in the air, doing favors for people only when He wanted to. When my ship hit the sand after my mom died, a friend dragged me out of the house to a Bible study group. They were studying the book of John. That's the best book to read in order to get to know Jesus, the person. It also depends on what Bible version you're reading. When we read the passage where Mary, Jesus' mother, tells Him the wedding party is out of wine, He calls her "woman." To me that sounded so disrespectful!! But it was explained that in those days and by the Jews, that was a form of respect. Oy! It took it a while for it to sink in, but it did. Suddenly, Jesus didn't seem so aloof to me. He was more loving. Getting to know Him better and seeing Him as a Brother, makes it even easier to know Him as a person. When Jesus got to Lazarus' house and found that he had already died, "Jesus wept." WOW! And He must have known that He was bringing him back to life! Maybe you're afraid of God/Jesus because you don't know Him very well... you think? See if there's any Women's Bible Fellowship Bible studies in your area. It's fantastic! ![]()

I have that exact same fear... I'm too scared to get too close because I'm afraid I might be rejected, so I watch from the sidelines. I'm still a Cristian and love God... but I keep my distance... does that make sense??? I think the most horrible thing that could happen is if I turn to God for help and I get let down... He is the One I don't even want to give a chance to dissappoint me, because what do I do when He does???

I know it must be hard and yes, you are putting yourself in a position where you can get hurt...bad. But thats what it all boils down too, taking that first step of faith. God will not disappoint if you put yourself on the line.

Having faith in God precludes disappointment. It means that if one asks Him for help, it's possible that His idea of help may be different from ours. Asking Him for help means that one trusts Him to do what is best for us and at His perfect timing, not ours.
When I was virtually homeless, all I could muster was "Oh, GOD!!!!" Within the week, I had my very own place to live and without a mortgage! God is indeed good!

I didn't mean to sound so negative toward religion or God when I posted. It's just that I don't have much positive experience when it comes to this subject. When I was little and my parents fought, I would pray that something, anything would happen to stop the noise and fighting, then instead of silence I would hear dishes breaking and the fighting increase. I always wondered why would God torment a child like that? I never prayed asking for materialistic things, I only prayed asking that my family is safe, happy, and healthy.

Yeah.
Sometimes %#@&#! happens. And people pray and pray and pray and pray and pray and you know what? %#@&#! just keeps on happening. Like when little me preyed for the abuse to stop and it didn't. It got worse as I got older as a matter of fact. God allowed Satan to test Job not because his faith was weak, but precisely because his faith was strong. The bible tells me so... My faith wasn't particularly strong... But yeah... %#@&#! happened and continued to happen despite prayer. Maybe all those people dying of starvation and / or dehydration simply aren't preying enough or maybe they are preying to the wrong god but I don't see their situation being alleviated either. I personally don't believe that prayer is a magic fix... I think it is more about hope for things to get better (if not in this life than in the afterlife) I think it is more about being grateful for small mercies (drinking water or food or shelter or whatever) I'm sorry things are hard for you Take care. (P.S. Yes I think it is possible to be denied by God. I bet you a million bucks I could prey everyday for God to give me wings so I can fly like a bird in this lifetime and God would not grant me my request) The New Testament says something about if you accept Jesus into your heart then you ARE saved (so if your heart is pure when you accept Jesus into your heart in the sense that you are genuine with your words) then God won't deny you and you ARE saved. But for the people who have trouble mustering the 'genuine' aspect of that... I guess God denies them too... |

Ephesians 2:8 says
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, is the gift of God." The book of Romans is about His love for us too...none of us are worthy... we are sinners.. each and every one of us... we are not capable of being perfect... only Jesus was perfect...But He loves us.. You don't have to fight for His love...John 3:16-17 says " For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son,that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. (17) For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." God loves you... Pray to Him and ask Jesus into your heart... He knocks.. let Him in... all you have to do is accept Him as your Savior.. repent of your sins...its that easy... pray that His will be done... Faith

I didn't think you were being negative. You asked a legitimate question that has a lot of meaning for you. There is a lot in that to understand.
Many times we pray and don't get the answer that we want. That happens for a number of reasons, but the key words are "that we want." It isn't that He didn't listen or doesn't care. Sometimes the answer is "no." And sometimes we can't understand why the answer is no. One reason is that everyone has agency, so when you asked for God to stop the fighting, your parents had agency to choose their actions (and responsibility for the consequences), and God won't take away anybody's agency. That would be like not letting you finish a test because at the moment you're not doing so hot. But you still have the right to keep on trying and hope that you do better later on. It wouldn't be fair to take that away, or to make you put down the right answers. Another reason is that what we ask for isn't always the very best for us. Again, we can't understand why. But maybe there is some understanding that you gained or will gain from being a helpless child listening to your parents fight. Maybe because of that you will be able to help someone else, or you will know what to do when you face another difficult experience later on. It's not for us to say why. Have you ever prayed and just asked God if you are acceptable to Him and if He loves you? Try it, and really listen for the answer. It might be a silent answer that you will feel somehow. You do have to be open to it. I have, and I was answered, and sometimes I still forget momentarily but I can't deny that I did get an answer to that question, and that you can too.

Be careful what you pray for, God might give it to you?
If you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can say Mountain be removed and it will be. If you want something to happen but go into it thinking something "isn't going to happen," you're right! My God says to come to him as a child would... maybe some ppl are feeling too "adult" to draw close? TC
