For many weeks now I have not worked. I used to babysit, but because of my irritability, tiredness, depression, anxiety, I have quit work. I just don't think it's fair to them babies to have me care for them. They need someone who's able to do it the way I used to.
Can't sleep at night, so am tired by day. Have tried sleeping pills but then I'm groggy by day as well...
I'm not on antidepressants cuz the docs have had me try so many and none improved my depression, they only added to it with the side effects.
So I'm not working, and am just not able to pay the bills. I'm overwhelmed with the kids, am a single mom, going through a divorce process, my stress has lately been manifesting in backaches, have a child with psychiatric issues and it takes a lot out of me in the morn before he goes off to school and in afternoon when he comes home from school. In addition, the two other kids are real difficult.
On account of what I wrote above, is there basis for applying for ssi? Is there basis for qualifying for benefits?
Thanks!

Yes, I believe there is a basis for disability. I got mine because of depression and anxiety along with some physical problems.

Like I always advise people who have or are thinking of applying for SSI, switch your thinking from minimizing your illnesses to brining them to the fore. See your doctor for anything concerning these illnesses, have your T or medical doctor write a report as to why you can't be on anti-depressants, write down in a journal everything that has happened, DETAILS, because of your mental illness. Finally, get a copy of your medical and pshychological files and keep adding to them. The thicker the better. It proves that your life is impacted quite a bit by your illnesses.

File right away! When your claim is granted, it will be retroactive. It took me three years and I got quite a sizable amount. basis for ssi? It took three years, however, because I hired a lawyer. I'm positive that he didn't know crap from applebutter, but he could have messed up the case to make my retro bigger, therefore his cut was bigger. I FIRED HIM two weeks before I went to my hearing. The judge had already approved me before I went before him. basis for ssi?

If you apply for Welfare/Medical and food stamps, there are SSI advocates that work IN the Welfare office and help you present your case in the proper manner.

Best of luck to you!

Yes, I have heard of people winning benefits because of depression alone.
I had alot of spinal problems but I was also granted benefits for because I had depression and anxiety too.
I agree, apply now as Septembermorn said, it will be retroactive and I too hired a lawyer because I was denied the first two times. I finally won on the third try after going before the judge but it took me three years from the time I filed.

Good Luck,
Linda

That depends. Some Social Security right now is going through a reform process because the "Baby Boomers" are all coming up for retirement and there is not enough funds to take care of them so the criteria for SSI keeps changing. It takes usually anywhere between 6 months to a year process of applying and then going to specialists in the fields of what you place on your claim. and then SSI social workers go according to what those professionals say. So if you have a great therapy professional that will state officially that you have debilitating depression and anxiety to the point where you cannot and most likely will not be able to in the future work and the SSI specialists also match what your specialists say then yes you will recieve SSI. They will throw out the part about having a child with psychiatric issues because the claim is for you not your child so they can only go according to what problems you have that prevent you from working - your own physical health problems and your own mental health problems.

In either case it doesn't hurt to apply. and cost nothing so good luck and hang in there
