My IQ is only 100 (I took a professional IQ test for my psychology class a few years ago) but I am a smart person. I study and learn things all the time and have a good memory. I retain information really well, and people I know all say I'm smart. I've been studying quantum physics lately and astrophysics. It's really interesting stuff. But really hard to understand. I'm also taking a course on the big bang theory and dark matter, and also calculus (again). I don't think IQ really means much.

Thank you, Brainhi.

What a lovely and thoughtful thing to say. And yes, I feel like those days are behind me, and I value the person I am now and the person I am becoming.

And Krisakira-

I think you are one of the smartest people I know.

I don't think this applies to everyone with a high IQ. A lot of them know their field but cannot function in the randomness of the real world.

IQ is just one dimension of us. It does not it reveal a lot about a person's character so I don't think it is significant. All it really reveals is academic potential. Potential is bolded because it also involves belief, interest and commitment. A person with an average IQ can easily get on the dean's list if they work at it.

If I took an IQ test I would not do well. Why? I have bad test anxiety and cannot solve puzzles, word problems etc in front of people.

I try to deal with what I have been dealt. It is what I own. This is mostly a solo adventure.

What others have is theirs to own.

the higher your IQ is the more you will struggle with accepting certain harsh truths in life

"Legitimate" and "free" as well as "link" (online) don't work together for IQ tests. It needs to be given, timed, scored, etc. by someone trained to give, time, score them and they charge money as it is how they make their living. They're not dumb

I think IQ (intelligence) is just a tool, a part of one's package one is born with and it's what one does with it that is important, not "having" it. Someone pointed out that people with high IQs make better physicists and pool players and I was tempted to ask which the poster was then :-) My aunt took me to a MENSA social in her town and I was underwhelmed with the people I met there.

Having a high IQ doesn't mean that you necessarily give a damn I think that depends more on your capacity for compassion and empathy. There are many very intelligent people who don't feel things in that way.
I do understand what you mean.

I agree that it's a gift or a tool. A person may not use the tool wisely. They may not even know how to use it at all. It doesn't guaranty you financial or spiritual success. It may not even play an integral part in your chosen profession. Jill St John comes to mind
I agree with your experience of "Mensa people." When someone boasts of being a member of MENSA I tend to write them off my list of people I think I'd like to meet.
There are different types of intelligence I believe. IRL people seem impressed with my intelligence but... my IQ number isn't exactly jaw dropping. It is far below Jill St John's

With a high IQ come many downsides, I am socially inept, I am Bipolar one, suffer from severe anxiety and PTSD. Nothing I would wish on anyone. I am shy, insecure, and needy. I don't seem to fit in anywhere. I think that while high IQ's don't guarantee mental illness, many people with IQ's over 100 do suffer some type of mental illness.

IQ is something that is passed down to us with our DNA. I am grateful for very intelligent humans who have created things in this world like the sciences advances, music, art etc. Intelligent people can also create things that cause havoc. You get what is passed onto you. Like DNA for what we look like. Some things passed down are EQ. None of us earn what is in our DNA.

Its like some kind of goodie bag or not, in our genes.

I wonder: if your IQ goes up then does your EQ go down? I scored high on IQ once (gifted/genius) but my EQ was low (I think they said I had high difficulty understanding emotions, I forget the lowest category now). I am constantly misreading people and their emotions, and making up my own scenarios on what they are thinking about me or how they see me. I am often convinced people hate me, just because of something they may have said or did. Very often I feel like people are avoiding me, or like they don't want me around. I've come to realize that I'm trying to read other people's minds and thinking I can be in their heads! Logically of course, all of this is completely absurd!

I score above the 99.99th percentile (according to the chart on Mensa's website). I had to repeat one class of secondary school four times and am now doing a level lower than I started out at.

I feel guilty about it. God or whomever has given me these brains with a reason, and what do/can I do with it? Nothing!

I try to do that, but it isn't working out very well. And my therapists say I aim for things that can't be reached. That I can't expect from myself that I can do everything other people with my IQ can, or even people with more average IQ's, or people with half my IQ, because I also have half a dozen psychiatric diagnoses/issues. (I counted - actually seven) And that I'm overworked because I'm trying and (need to) engage in unhealthy coping mechanisms in order to continue trying (such as ignoring my own limits/boundaries and repressing everything that doesn't help me reach my goal, such as thoughts, nightmares and memories)

That whole "shoot for the moon - even if you miss you'll land among the stars" isn't working out for me. So far for me it is "shoot for the moon - if you miss you fall down far and hit the ground hard."
