It is 4:20 in the morning and I am the only one awake. I feel like a little kid again on Christmas morning waiting for my parents to wake up so we can open presents. I am out here at their house. I always spend the night out here on Christmas so I can be here to open presents. Most of the time they are up way before me and have to pry me off the couch to wake up. I am wondering what is so special about 4:00 because the last 3 nights I have been up at this time. I am thinking about taking some benadryl so I can go back to sleep but think if I did that I wouldn't be awake to open presents. I really need to talk to my pdoc about this cuz it sucks big time. I will call tomorrow and see if she's back from her holiday. Friday night I took 2 ambien CR and got high and felt like I was floating and yet still woke up at 4. I want to be asleep!!!

Hi Jannie -- sorry you are struggling with this. You are probably asleep by the time you get a reply. Some people think that the wee hours are a good time for prayer. I have heard it said that the "veil" is thinner between 2 and 4 a.m. between people and transcendent worlds (God, or the Universe, or the Great Spirit, or Universal Love). I hope you find a way to use the insomnia in some way.

PS -- Oddly, I was thinking last night about how much better I used to sleep when I exercised a lot in the evenings. I used to walk my dog/s at least a mile, do yoga, and swim a half-mile 3 x a week. I couldn't maintain that kind of schedule now due to health, but I had the thought, "That was a good life." If your health and age permits, do you think exercise and fresh air might help?

I would love to be able to exercise right now and hopefully when I go to see the new ortho he will be able to give me some ideas on how I can do this. Right now I am in an ankle boot and it gets quite painful if I walk on it for a long period of time...I found this out a couple of weeks ago looking at Christmas lights and walking around the mall. Anyway thanks for the ideas and I plan on calling my doc in the morning. They were closed today due to the holiday.
