I love Stargate SG1. There are very few TV shows that I really want to see each week and that's the top for me. Good way to relax.

Iuse to watch Star Trek TNG, and The Voyager like anightly ritual then family things changed stuff.
I still watch the X-File reruns in the wee hours ![]() I also use to love was the show called Millenium, which also was by Chris Carter, never fails, when I start to like old shows I had never watched they get pulled off ![]() You are right, that watching Sci-Fi can temporarily cure, but I think I'd say "lift" one out of depression, for a little time (escape, I call it for an hour) ha!ha! When the Borg would be in some of the Star Trek TNG flicks I use to get anxious due to their indestructablity and assimilating, all so fast too!! I use to like the character "Q" on the show, and how he would get Picard and/or Whorf angry. Well, sorry I haven't gotten into Startgate, maybe when I get back to having TV time I'll check it out ![]() Take care, DE In giving advice seek to help, not please your friend SOLON

Man, what a coincidence I found this place today.. I adore Stargate SG-1, it's my favourite show. In fact, I'm wearing an SG-1 T-shirt right now.
![]() I even have a real SG-1 jacket from the set of the show.. and I've met several of the actors at a Stargate convention at a hotel over here. It was really sad the other week though, when Dr Fraiser died. |

I really miss Farscape.
There was a sci-fi show on nbc a while back called "earth II" that was really awesome, focused on characters and drama rather than on "space ships" which is the mistake most network shows make when trying to "cash in" on the sci-fi craze imo. it was the first network show since the original trek that did it right imo but still got cancelled quickly. i love trek but am also a star wars junkie (a lot of people seem to be either one or the other but not both) see my website ![]()

I really like SG-1, the storyline is excellent. I watch it whenever I can. The only thing I didn't like was it originally being scheduled for I believe 60 episodes. Then it became so popular that they extended it indefinitely, that what you were expecting for the end of the series had to be changed to the ongoing series. I was really looking forward to the build-up of the rescue of Daniel's wife, Sharee. But it's still an excellent show.
I think my 2 favorites, and I'm really dating myself here, are Lost in Space, and, Battlestar Galactica. I always made sure that I was right in front of the TV when those two show came on. "Danger, Will Robinson!" Greg |

oh i was a HUGE lost in space fan. i am always embarrassed to admit that when i was young i never watched star trek becasue i was hooked on lost in space instead. (i got into trek much later on when it was already in syndication).
did you see the new galactica miniseries on the sci-fi channel last december? i thought there were some good things, some bad, but overall enjoyed it. for dating: what about Thunderbirds or Fireball XL-5? i have thunderbirds movies on laserdisc and episodes on dvd. i loved those old gerry anderson marionett shows (and they are spoofing that style now in the "orbit" travel ads!) and even their other sci fi shows. Remember the original theme song for Space 1999? remember the second season theme? how about the show UFO i used to love that one. i never got into doctor who but there was another brit series called Blake's Seven that i absolutely loved and i don't see it around anymore. public tv used to carry it for awhile. -- The world is what we make of it -- -- Dave -- http://www.idexter.com

I love battlestar galactica. It was my absolute favorite show growing up. Woo hoo. I was totally in love with Starbuck. haha
I like the new show Jake 2.0 too but it has since disappeared off the airwaves. Too bad. It was a lot of fun to watch. As for stargate, bptoo knows pretty well that's it's my favorite show. They are still not showing the new seasons where I live though. They just keep rerunning season 1 through 4 so I'm way way behind. I love all sci-fi. later hugs t "man's belief that he is the only intelligent being has not done him good" JRR Tolkien

>>what about Red Dwarf? wonderful escapism for depression sufferers!
Yes, I only "discovered" Red Dwarf relatively recently, last year or two or so. Don't see it around here anymore so I had forgotten how clever and funny it was. I think my biggest problem with Dr. Who isn't with the show, just my experience with it. When I was growing up Dr. Who was on one of the local stations but they kept varying the times on weekends... seems like they used it to fill time between movies of different lengths. So it was hard to catch regularly. That in itself wasn't so bad, but it seems like everytime i did catch an episode it was ALWAYS part 3 of a 4 part story. So I never saw a complete "episode" all the way through and never knew what was going on in the story. Years of that left me with an ingrained aversion that I have never been able to shake. I was luckier with Blake's Seven. I remember seeing the ads on the local public station (this was much later than my childhood experience with dr who), and wanted to watch it even though it looked very much like dr who and i didn't think i would like it. i watched anyway and was immediately hooked. which was extra strange because i picked it up in the middle of the run, so at that point there were no longer 7 characters and there was no one named Blake ![]() I saw Paul Darrow (Avon) at a sci fi convention once, appearing on the bill with William Shatner, what a strange combination of on stage personalities. Paul Darrow was one of my favorite guests ever at a con, along with Leonard Nimoy. Everyone else seems to just repeat the same routine every visit. George Takei ALWAYS told the same story about the toilet paper in the Marriott hotel across the street ![]() -- The world is what we make of it -- -- Dave -- http://www.idexter.com

dex, I like SG-1, but I, too, really miss Farscape. I was sooooo irritated at the ending. There's no way it can come back now.
I always loved Doctor Who, but my mom detested it...whenever I watched it, she would complain about how could I watch such a stupid show. Then, when I was in college, I roomed with an English exchange student who had watched it her whole life. And she was actually scared by it!!! ![]() ![]() And even though I'm sure plenty of the sci-fi junkies here will mock me for it, I am now mourning the demise of yet another favorite show, Mystery Science Theater 3000. That show made me laugh until my sides hurt. mj

>>I am now mourning the demise of yet another favorite show, Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Oh jeez no one I know would mock you... that show was AWESOME. I was absolutely in love with all the robots, but even so a lot of the humor was very intelligent, with references to escher, classical music, old elizabeth taylor movies... just lots of fun stuff always sure that something somewhere would really get you right in your funny bone. I really miss crow, he was so cute. and joel too. which brings to mind another old favorite movie that I had forgotten about, one that they spoofed on mst3k. Anyone remember Santa Claus Conquers the Martians? I saw that movie when i was young and i always loved it. i've spent my life singing the theme song at the drop of a hat. i had so much fun when they took it on mst3k and i have both versions on tape (the real movie and the one with the "commentary") That was such an awful but fun, campy movie, and i remember that it actually made a lot of money, because it was made on a really low budget i think on long island, plus the theme song became a hit and sold records, so it ended up making a profit. Does everyone remember the theme song? Does anyone remember who sang the theme song? oh what great memories. -- The world is what we make of it -- -- Dave -- http://www.idexter.com

Well not much of a challenge for you, borg! I only found those clips recently.
I always liked thunderbirds but i liked fireball xl5 better. funny because i can';t remember the show at all, i just remember i used to watch it and that i liked it, and i have a memory of the ending credits. The funny thing about the UFO theme for me... some of you remember me talking about a really good friend who shared many interests with me, and we used to be so silly together and i've never laughed harder in my life than i have with her (man i miss her so much). We used to take long car trips together, a lot of times on trips to rollercoasters, we'd stay in cheapo motels to save money and we always had a blast because we were just so open and comfortable and silly with each other. on one trip it was late at night on the road, we must have been talking about ufo and suddenly for no reason i came up with lyrics to the song... they weren't related to the show but were an advertisement for the holiday inn chain. as borg said, it is number 3 on the list above, so you can sing along... "holiday inn we're staying at the holiday inn the staff will bring you shampoo and towels you'll meet with the Howells when you dip in the pool.... "holiday inn we're staying at the holiday inn yadda yadda yadda and whateverthehellelseyouwanttothrowin..." OK it doesn;'t quite fit exactly but we did a better job of it when we came up with the idea. There really were no official lyrics, we just kept singing it for hours and making up different verses as we went along. (I through the above together as an example but doesn't fit as well as it should... but you get the idea. that had to be 10 or 15 years ago and i can't ever hear the song at all without thinking of the holiday inn. nor stay at the holiday inn without thinking of the song ![]() i'm rambling again. -- The world is what we make of it -- -- Dave -- http://www.idexter.com

Did anybody like the mini-series "V"? I thought it was awesome. I was glued to the set all 5 nights of it.

I thought the first miniseries was relatively awesome, the sequel miniseries was very good too (reminded me of "empire strikes back" in some ways) but the weekly tv series started to fall apart. too many compromises, i think, in order to "undo" the ending of the second miniseries in order to keep the plot going for weekly.
it was cool that the original mini was an allegory for wwII... if you remember there was an actress who died while the miniseries was being made, the daughter of the novelist dominick dunne... and i heard that the original plan was to have the whole story told from her point of view, in the style of "the diary of anne frank". when she died they had to rearrange the plan but still kept the overall allegorical elements. i remember at least a few scenes that reminded me of "the sound of music" in that regard. -- The world is what we make of it -- -- Dave -- http://www.idexter.com
