Not trying to single anyone out, but we have a member here that doesn't want hugs. His request has been honored. We have a member that gets triggered by the brackets around her name. Her request has been honored by typing the brackets backwards.

I'd like to make a special request for myself. If anyone is going to post anything about STROKES OR HEART ATTACKS, would you please use your TRIGGER ICON?!

I have PTSD from having taken care of my mom through her strokes and I may have had a couple of minor strokes myself. I'm in the process of having tests to see exactly what happened to me. I read the word "stroke" and I start the obsessive thinking and getting dizzy, etc.

Writing this and posting it is extremely difficult for me! I will be obsessing the rest of the day. Major Request! PLEASE! Major Request! PLEASE!

Thank you!

Wow. Sorry (((septie))) I would suggest that you, and other members who have such specific triggers, add it to your profile??? That way at least the new members have a chance of knowing too.

(((((((hugs)))))))

I'm very sorry that I posted something that upset you. The last thing I ever want on here is to hurt anybody.

_Sky what a Great suggestion. I didn't even know that such requests could be or were made.

I'm sorry that you were triggered. I'm sure it wasn't intentional.

IMHO - I think that SM realizes that you did not mean to hurt her. Things do happen that we can't control.

Good way to ask for what you need (((((( Sept ))))))

I will work on honoring that. It's going to be difficult to do since new members, or anyone who hasn't read this thread won't know and might need to discuss this. I'm trying to think of what you can do...Hmmm. Thinking...

Off the top of my head I can think that maybe you can have a buddy do a search everyday (two seconds) and PM you to tell you if there are any posts out there with those words...that might help?

OH goodness...this just reminded me...I'm behind in a PM to my buddy. Major Request! PLEASE! Major Request! PLEASE!

Let me know if this might work for you, k?

You know something I don't know? :scratch_head: Only place I can see to do that is to add PTSD to my list of illnesses, but there's no place to say WHY or what triggers me. Major Request! PLEASE!

Any ideas?

September,

If just reading about it unexpected adds the most to your anxiety, maybe you could search those words yourself at the start of your sessions and make sure to avoid those posts?

Or, you could have a buddy help you with that.

Just one suggestion of what might happen there to help you with this.

I was thinking in your PROFILE... but it might have to go into the BIO area??? Edit Preferences... on that listing... when we click on someone's name it comes up... I mean it wouldn't be immediate but would become knowledge as we continue to read other's profiles...right?

Maybe that's a listing area DocJohn can help with... triggers? IDK.

You know, I think we're going down a really bad path here.

Triggers are part of life. It's good to be able to learn to live with them instead of proscribing what people can and can't express.

I've had 4 blood clots, including a baseball-sized one in my lung that should have killed me, and one has happened while I was ON anticoagulants. I have two genetic mutations and a host of physical problems that contribute to this problem of mine. A stroke is a constant possibility for me. If it happens, and it doesn't kill me, and it doesn't horribly disable me, I'm going to need to talk about it, and I'm going to do it here, since I have no T. But I'm never supposed to bring it up because it bothers somebody??!

Adding a list of potential triggers would be endless -- there are as many triggers as there are human beings -- and needlessly clog profiles. If something bothers you, you have the option of not reading it! I do it all the time and I highly recommend it.

I think candybear might have a point here. I never thought of that. On the NCSTPD sight they mention that us pstd people avoid these things and the way to deal with it was "flooding". Check that out Septie and see how you feel about that. The bullyonline sight was excellent for PTSD info too.

SeptMorn requested that people use a trigger icon so she would be warned in advance and know not to read the post.

She did not say not to post about it, she merely asked for a trigger so she would know not to read it. She is not belittling anyone else's illness. She is totally aware of how horrible strokes and heart attacks are. She has anxiety problems concerning heart attacks and strokes.

I have Panic Disorder. I remember a time when reading or hearing the words "Panic" or "Panic Attack" caused a spiraling panic attack so huge that I almost passed out from sheer terror.

I am positive SetemberMorn's terror is no less than mine and I am certain it is no less important.

This is a forum for support. This thread is to support SeptemberMorn, who very nicely asked for help with her problem.

Let's keep our posts supportive and appropriate to her request. If you have a problem, take it to pm or contact an admin or mod.

January

Major Request! PLEASE! {{{{{{{{{{{{Jan}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Major Request! PLEASE!

Thank you so much for understanding and supporting me in my efforts in asking for what I need!! You are so right! Those words, spoken or written send me on one of those panic attacks you speak of. I get flashbacks of my mom laying in bed, slowly trying to raise her hand to her head in order to pull her hair in frustration and desperation! She couldn't even open her eyes to look at me and try to communicate that way!

I guess the fact that at my mom's death, I completely lost myself and my sanity doesn't matter much to some people here. I can only hope they never experience anything like I did.

Jan, thanks again so much! Major Request! PLEASE!
