Does anyone else do this? I do it all the time and come off feeling so stupid, it's so embarrassing that I have to ask them what I was just talking about. It's like my mind just suddenly goes blank in the middle of a sentence. I'll start talking to someone about something and then completely forget what I'm saying, and sometimes I'll jump subject and start to ramble. Maybe it's anxiety? I've been noticing this more and more since someone called me out on it and now I'm really self concious about it, as I am with everything. I was reading up on it and apparently it happens to people with social anxiety and people with ADHD? I've not been diagnosed with ADHD though, but maybe it could still be that.

Does this happen with anyone else?

this happens to me, with in me the problem is a side effect of my medications...

there are many things that can cause this....

puberty/menopause/medications/ mental problems/physical health problems/lack of sleep/poor nutrition ...

to find out what is causing it with in you, you will need to contact your own treatment providers or a treatment provider in your location.

Yes, I have this problem too....but also, I'll be thinking of something I want to do or say and 10 seconds later, I can't recall what it was and yet I KNOW it was really important. I wonder if we are all on information overload?!

Not a disorder. It's called "losing your train of thought". It is pretty common place. Maybe taking pauses between short sentences would help.

technically it is probably not a disorder - it is a symptom. Mine is tied to depression.

I forget what they call it (stunner) - it is something like depressed retardation. So what all the kids said when I was growing up is true - I am a retard.

I get this! Usually if I'm depressed (because I'm preoccupied with that emotion) or hypomanic (because my brain won't shut up and is heaps ahead of my mouth).

I also mix up words. Like asking my students to stand in their desks instead of sit in their desks... or asking them to line up at the window instead of the door...

All the time. By brain is constantly thinking and rethinking things even as I do it. It's always planning contingencies and I this is said then I'll say this. If i do this and they do that then I'll do this. Very confusing at times so I don't think about it much and just let it happen. I like to control too much. Some things just have to be winged.

I agree with what alpot said. For me, I believe it's simply losing my train of thought.

Happens frequently to me these days. Really irritating. Far as I know there is nothing I can do about it, other than maybe getting into reading and training my brain a bit. It was much worse when I was on a certain medication, but I still suffer from it every day, whether I am depressed or not.

I'll add me to the chorus of, I do this too.

I think it happens to a lot of people but we don't notice it so much in others cause they are not us.

I also have to re-read the title of what threads I'm posting to or I'll find myself replying to one thread on another thread!

I do other types of word mix ups.. Let's take the dog for a Malk. To me an M and W are the same letter it just depends how it is hanging on the clothesline at this moment. Or the other mix up is the right words in the wrong order... Let's take the walk for a dog. The niggling feeling is that it has to do with exhaustion and everyone always wanting you to talk, talk, talk. Doesn't anyone realize how tiring it is to talk?

Yes, I do this a lot. Like you, I also, feel very embarrassed & stupid when it happens. I try to avoid long conversations with people because of this. I do have both social anxiety & ADHD.

It probably could be considered a disorder if it happened very frequently and significantly impacts someones life or it can sometimes be a symptom of a disorder...but yes it happens to everyone sometimes but when its very frequent it can be bothersome.

It is SO frustrating when this happens and you will be surprised as to how many people have this happen to them as well. We are all not alone in this. It is nothing to be embarrassed about, it just happens; the mind is mystery in all it tries to do when we are speaking, processing, and planning what we are going to say. It is the ultimate in multitasking and is surprising it does not happen more often.

I simply will apologize, telling them I just lost my train of thought, and ask them, "What was I just saying?" It is surprising how many people can relate to this and are very helpful in reminding you where you were so you can continue.

However, if even after being reminded and you don't remember where you are going, laugh it off, just saying, "It must be one of those days, I just don't know where I was going with that," and change the subject, going off onto something else or ask them something, to give them time to respond and catch your breath and thoughts again.

Okay, if this happens a lot like it does me I really feel you, I was diagnosed OCD depression and mild aspergers not to say any of thos are the leading cause to slow thought processing forgetting what saying all the time and anxious often in the same boat tho as far as not being able to pinpoint what's going on I thought I would get my thoughts put there and me and you can go from there thanks!

Yes that happens to me more often than I like....and I have noticed it can be worse if I am feeling anxious/on edge about a topic being discussed. Like when talking to my therapist that I go to for PTSD.

So very often this happens. It's pretty annoying when you're asking to have like the salt passed to you, and instead you're blurting out "pass the..the uh.. thing, please!".

My mind doesn't go blank in the middle of a sentence but my memory in general has gotten horrible. I think it all started with the million ECTs I had. Now it's gotten even worse on Topamax.
