that's why we piped up mandy.....you're not "stupid", "clueless", or any other adjective that may have negative connotations with regard to cognitive abilities. it was like reading a cryptic language trying to understand exactly what this google thing was....and we're no slouch with grasping things so we were feeling rather dulled.

in school (oh so long ago) one wonderful teacher drummed into our head that the only stupid or dumb question was the one that goes unasked. meaning that you'll never find out more if you remain silent during confusion or uncertainty.

glad you asked, glad we asked and glad the admins cleared up this cool new thing that Doc John has going.

Yeah, I should've explained it first thing, and Google doesn't really explain it well themselves. It takes a fair amount of work to figure out how it works. They've been really great in helping us get up and running with this, though, and I've been really impressed by their level of customer service to a site like ours. It's a genuine pleasure to work with them.

We've only done a few hundred tags so far, but hope to have it up to over 1,000 in another week or two. In most cases, our efforts probably won't affect most of your results, unless you're specifically looking for something mental-health related.

Thanks again,
John

Thanks folks... We're up to 12. It may seem like a small number, but it's actually fairly good because (a) most people don't know this functionality exists yet in Google and (b) most people don't know how to sign up for it or what exactly it does.

I appreciate your support, it really does help us. Thank you!

John

Sure. Check you're PM's.

Anyone else need an invitation?

I LOVE google mail. It's awesome the way that it lists the messages and keeps conversations together, etc.

I signed up for a google account and now what do I need to do with it? Sorry I must seem incredibly stupid about all of this but it sounds like it will be very good and Doc John asked for our help that is all I needed.

Thanks for everything you do for us Doc.

Good question!

If you have a google account and username, click the link in DocJohn's first post here and it will take you to another page. From there you can subscribe. It will ask for your google username and password and that's it. Please Subscribe to Psych Central's Search Results on Google

The trusted sites will only show first on your "google" searches. I have it set as my default search engine. I just wanted to remind you. Please Subscribe to Psych Central's Search Results on Google

Thank you!

oic. I have to make up another name... I have the McAfee site advisor, so google is doing likewise. And specifically how does this work to help PC, if I may ask?

I don't understand either. I created a google account but don't have a clue what to do with it or how it relates to PC. I'm confused. Could someone post very specific and detailed information for those of us who don't know what we're doing?
Thank you. TgrsPurr.

OK OK, I went back and this time it was somehow different. I wasn't given the option of "subscribe" last time but this time I did, so now I understand how it helps PC. Lookin forward to tryin' it all out. Thank you.

Oh Yeah, could someone give us some tips on using this google acct and all the bells and whistles cuz I'm thoroughly overwhelmed!!!

As LadyDragus noted, I very rarely ask for members to do anything here other than to enjoy the support offered or given here. This is one time I'm asking members -- you, specifically -- to help Psych Central out with an important project it is undertaking. We only have *4* people subscribed right now. I'd like that to be 104 if at all possible....

Thanks,
John

The war between smart search engine optimizers and just as smart search engine engineers lasts since crawling search engines generate organic search traffic. The crux is, that search engines relying on clever algorithms and unbeatable computing power can get outsmarted by just as clever algorithms and way less computing power. To stop the AI escalation, search engines had to integrate human considerations into their ranking algorithms.

In other words; by telling Google that we like/respect DocJohn (and his site :-) we make sure they rank him higher up when people use Google to search for certain psychology topics so he's on initial search pages instead of page 3,789,536,321
