remember the dogs next door? Butch, the pitbull that i feed? the other pitbulls, on chains in front yard. now there is a bulldog that the oldest daughter encourages to fight the younger pitbull girl dog..........i stopped that one day and warned her against ever doing it again.

an appraiser came here last Friday to appraise this property for landlord.......he came over to my house, pounding on door and asked me for the police phone number. next thing i know, the animal control people and police are over there. a notice was left that the neighbors had two days to get veterinary treatment for dogs and clean up the mess. and if the animal control/police officers weren't satisfied, they were seizing all three dogs from the front yard. thank god i take care of Butch.

i haven't been to get my mail......can't stand to look at the dogs and i go in the dark........so, i don't know exactly what has happened. but the appraiser told me that if it didn't change, to call him and he would come back over here (45 miles) and confront them himself. he raises black labs.

today was a holiday, so i'm thinking their two days is up tomorrow...........keep your fingers crossed.

Faye, it's good that those dogs have come to the attention of the authorities - it sounds like they were being mistreated The Dogs Next Door..........

But here, in the UK, pitbulls are classed as dangerous dogs and it's illegal to own them. Is it different there?

Fayerody,

Women's voices typically are softer than mens, and typically we are trained to be nice. Just having my husband with me typically gets me more action, even when he doesn't say anything and just stands there.

Did you get snow?

Hugs,

EJ

pitbulls aren't outlawed here. Austin newspaper had a letter recently asking for that.

i take care of the pitbull that lives in the neighbor's backyard, Butch. i wouldn't trust him with my cats at all. and i don't go into the yard with him. i slide food under the gate and i scratch and pet him through fence. he is a very sweet dog, but he's been fought and that sents my radar skipping. one killed a ten year old girl day before yesterday in san antonio. she was trying to help him get loose from a fence. he knew her.

a lot of pitbull owners need to be outlawed. a lot of them. i got three picked up earlier last year that were starving. i've been really lucky with animal control up until this last abuse situation. i'm so glad that the appraiser took an interest in it. the landlord wouldn't. The Dogs Next Door..........

we are getting sleet. Austin is getting snow. kids are making snow ice cream.

It's not the dogs that need to be outlawed -- it's the people who do this to the dogs who should be locked away, for a very, very long time. Watching animal behavior videos every day.

My heart goes out to Butch, and in fact, all the other animals those owners have.

I am so pleased to see that there is an understanding that it is not the dog or breed, but the owner. I own (and husband breeds) 2 pitbulls and they are the most beautiful and loving dogs I have ever had. (Other than my Chiuahua, Amy).

This breed is a sporting breed and really love to work hard. They are only classed as dangerous or vicious because owners have made them that way.

Thank you for caring so much Pat. Butch is lucky to have you looking over his shoulder.

I would like to share this:

Pitbull’s Don’t Cry (Author Unknown)

I see the children in the lane
They look like friends, we’ll have a game
They’ve got a stick, oh boy, what fun
They’ll throw it to me and I’ll run
But someone stops me,
I wonder why their mother screams
“Don’t go near those horrid dogs,
come here, come close, they’re
dangerous -I’ll tell you why,
They bite little children and they die”
All I can do is watch and sigh
Cause I now know that
Pitbull’s don’t cry.

Mom cuddles me up and says,
“My pet, we love you dearly so don’t fret “
But I love everyone out there
Why can’t they love me, I do care
I wish they weren’t made to pass me by
I’m a Pitbull, I don’t cry.

I sit behind my padlocked gate
from early morn ’til late
When I go out it’s on a lead
Is mine the only heart to bleed?
I’m held in check as the world goes by
I wish the Pitbull heart could cry.

There are some dogs, and also men
Who cannot tell a foe from a friend
So all of us must bear the blame
Expected to live a life of shame
Condemned, alas and we know not why

All we know is we will not cry!

And now I'm crying ..........

I'm a dog lover for sure, but pit bulls have been inbred for generations and mistreated to promote the fighting and killer instinct like no other contemporary breed.
I would not trust them, no matter how special or gentle one or two of them may appear.
They are not like other breeds.

It's the people not the dogs that should be outlawed.
Any dog, breed or not,can be made vicious.
Bring an animal or a human, up in a loving, caring, environment and 99% of the time vicious outcomes will not occur.
To my understanding the "pits" have extreme strong jaws, making them desirable to be "forced" to become attack dogs.
I do not know where it was, but it wasn't an attack dog, but some morons went into the people's property (tresspassing) teased/provoked the dog and the owner gets sued for the injury suffered by the intruder/tresspasser.
That is definately insane, but many laws or lawyers are insane.
I feel anyone provoking, man nor beast deserves what they brought upon themselves.
No offense to anyone, just my personal feelings, not looking for any debates, etc.
It was very good of you to try to help as much as you were able.
The more I see the way children and animals are raised, today, is dreadful, for it's the innocent who become the victims of morons. Grrrrrrrrrr! Why do some people have kids and/or dogs when they cannot handle it? Behooves me.
Bless the beast and the children.

in the vein of the dog's behavior being the owner's fault, let me tell you what happened in NM one day.

i heard a child screaming....i was at the front of my property and i grabbed a hoe and ran to the road that goes through the village. the screaming was caused by the fact that a pitbull had my neighbor's dog, Chura, by the throat, through her fence and was killing her.

the owner had her on a big log chain and was standing there, watching this, with a plate and two pieces of cake on it.....i yelled to get your dog off and he told me he didn't want to drop the cake. i picked up a flat rock that probably weighed over 5 pounds and started hitting the dog on the head. the dog didn't budge.

suddenly, i knew what to do. i started hitting the man over the head with the flat rock and it took him no time to get his dog off of Chura and run, with me right behind him, down the road to his house. i called Annie, dog's mom, and animal control.

the man was told that if the dog left his yard again, the villagers had the right to take whatever measures they felt they had to take to be safe. and someone did.......in about two weeks....

Chura almost died from loss of blood but made it and lived to be a ripe old age. i've never seen such a grip as that dog had on Chura's throat. and to think that the idiot own er didn't want to drop his cake. well, he dropped his cake all right......and i threw it at him...... The Dogs Next Door..........

annie's daughter and her best friend gave me a "commendation" for saving Chura. i still have it and will treasure it always. i cannot stand any kind of animal fight. obviously, it wasn't bothering the dog's owner at all............pat

Fayerody,
Bless you for all you do for Butch and all the other ones.
I can't even watch the Animal Rescue programs because I find myself crying through the whole show and then I am so upset for hours afterwards.
So Bless you.

I hear you, I can't watch Animal Planet when Animal Cops is on, I get depressed and angry at the same time.
It's a good thing I'm not an animal cop, I'd be in trouble for some of the ways I'd "take care" of the owners. Grrrrr!!
If people cannot be responsible for their pets, understand their instincts that drive behaviour and work with the animal/training, then those people have no business owning a pet nor should they be allowed to. Oh man, have you ever seen the extent of neglect and abuse so many are victims of?
Unlike humans, they cannot tell anyone either what is happening, and not having the intelligence of humans to understand, makes it so much harder.
I have to change the channel when I see the horrors.
I also feel the same against human neglect and abuse, so please, no one reply with something in the vein of more attention is being paid to animals than people.
Neither should be made to suffer.
Enough of my rambling, it's a topic I can get way out of line over,so I'll stop ahead of time.

(((((((((((( to y'all ))))))))))))))))

the people next door have until tomorrow to get the dog's ear fixed, the yards cleaned and the chaining reduced...if they don't comply, the city goes to court and comes and picks up all of the dogs.....all four. butch would go also. i don't have a problem with it as i think that he would find a good home......

when the officer interviewed him, he used the exact statements that i had said to him about how to lance the dog's ear and used the exact antibiotic term that i used. ha ha ha .....he's never owned dogs before and knows zilch about any animal care.......proved that.......

they have statements from four of us now!!!!! and photographs from three!!!!

hold steady, gang! we're getting there!! thanks so much for your support. xoxoxo pat

i don't even go to my mailbox until it's dark. that's how bad it is. i can't look at them. i cry.

i just fed Butch his boiled eggs, realizing that i might not see him when i get home tomorrow after work. that will really hurt, but for the sake of the other three, they all need to go. he'll find a home. he's the sweetest dog i know. when he grins, his whole face lights up. the parting will cause sweet sorrow and i'll get through it cause i know how mistreated and abused the others are. and if the court takes one, they take them all.

this is very, very emotional for me......i love that dog so much.........and dislike those people equally as much.........xoxoxo thanks again, friends, you've helped me when i really needed it on this situation..........love, pat

p.s. for an overview on the adults there, the teen came over last night and her stepmother had refused to buy her any pads for her period. i went and got them for her.
